Sunday was a beautiful day. After a Friday night of coming home at 5am, I stayed home on Saturday watching Van Wilder and woke up around noon on Sunday. The original plan was to study during the afternoon. Well, that plan never works. I was easily convinced to go on a walk up the Bastille by my buddy Eduardo (Brazil). The Bastille is an old French fortification just above my dorm. It is perched overlooking Grenoble and has some spectacular views of the town and surrounding mountain ranges. The walk was scheduled to leave at 1:30 French time. I thought it would be an excellent time to get to know my new dorm-mates Melissa (Mexico), Vanessa (Colombia/America), Olga (Russia), and Connor (Utah). I also invited buddy Nate. By the way, he is becoming quite the JackAssery Scholar. He has studied the site extensively since he has no classes and is well versed in its lore.
The group was about 15 and left promptly at 2pm. My new friends are very nice. The hike was not too difficult for Fatty. I?ve been practicing by climbing up to my dorm at night after the busses quit. Plus I seem to be losing some Lbs finally. We got to the top and dinked around in the fort and took some picks. In the photo, I?m on the right sandwiched between Melissa and Vanessa. Could not ask for a better day ? sunny, warm, and a great bunch of people!
The only thing better would be for you guys to be here. That and I wished I had an American sandwich. This beautiful creation is a French version of a typical American sandwich. I have never seen one like it in America, so I have no clue why it is called an American. It is 2 beef patties and cheese served on a 12-inch crusty French loaf, and then filled with hot and tasty French fries! It is the cheapest dinner I can get here and by far the tastiest! I get that and a pop for $6 US. I am thinking of doing a cheap eats column for Dr. Swerbious.

I'll share a little tidbit on the culture over here. Its both really fantastic at first, but very time consuming. The French are very polite in a sense. Every day you need to greet your colleges with a handshake or a kiss and have a small coversation. It is great if you know lots of pretty girls like Papichulo. The girls come up to me for their morning kisses! It is so cool in the begining. My Cross Cultural Prof. put it into perspective. He said the German men have a problem with this. They are thinking 'She must love me' when she is really just saying hello. When you think of the kisses that way, they become more sterile and meaniless. But the whole greeting thing becomes crazy at my dorm. A simple walk down the hall can take an hour! You say hello to some one, offer some chit-chat, someone else comes along, 'Bonjour - Ca va?', more chit-chat and it continues. There are no TVs, so everyone has nothing to do but talk and homework. Talking always wins out. It starts to give you a sense of why the French are on French time. The personal relationship is important to the French. It comes before tasks. I read somewhere that in a French office, every morning there are thousands of handshakes between everyone before the days work is started.
There you have it.

Fatty - "Every day you need to greet your colleges with a handshake or a kiss and have a small coversation."
Just so everyone is aware, Fatty really meant colleagues instead of colleges.

Thanks for the clarification Bone. I'm sure many people were trying to figure out how I shake hands with my school. Don't forget the misspelling in conversation too. People need to know when words are spelled wrong cuz they can't figure it out themselves.

Also, so everyone knows, by "cuz", Fatty probably means "because," not "cousin".

Quote from Ross, "I admit that it's fun to pick on if you accidentally change the meaning of a sentence by misspelling a word. I can't help it, that shit is funny sometimes."
I have to agree, Fatty, I just had to point this out due to the fact that it does indeed conjure the image of you shaking hands with your school. Funny.
Creeko has a good point. Hot summer nights = less clothes and more booze.

Eduardo was showing me some pics he took of Grenoble this fall. He had one of this one chick in a super-short skirt, waiting for a bus. He walked up behind her and snapped a photo from his waist. The end result? A nice shot of cheech similar to Fregly's. I'm awaiting the warmer weather too.
It has been rainy and dreary most days here. Today is no exception. Yesterday a bunch of us hiked up the mountain again for a picnic. I was a rare, sunny and warm day. We had sangria, bread, cheese, cake, and chocolate. It was cool.

I thought I would give Fatty a feeling for life here these days:
Yesterday I got up and dinked around til noon. I ate a Cheeseburger Lean Pocket with my favorite chips (Cheddar Baked Lays) for lunch. I drank Diet Ruby Red. Went to work, froze my ass off on the way. Worked. Or at least did as much work as one can do at a comic specialty store. Came home. Got a short call from Fatty (my first). Ate dinner, ran some errands in town, stopped by Richie's to play Halo with a house full of young dickheads. Ate two Hostess Snowballs (both were pink). Came home and went to bed. It was fun.
Seriously, Fatty -- I appreciate the details of your adventures. Expect a call from Ang and I soon!
