On Thursday I went adventuring. You can tell by my hat. On the mountain I'm on, they have a Via Ferrata course. It is assisted rock climbing. They put grips into the rock and clips for your saftey harness. Physically it is not too hard, not the course I did. But man, I was fighting my fear the whole time. If you fell, you wouldn't die. You'd just get pretty fucked up smacking into the rocks. I think you'd hang there until the rescue team came. You move from hold to hold, while moving your saftey lines. The scariest part was a cable bridge. You walk on one cable while holding only one more. I was about 80 feet up. The pic here is of another bridge. It gave me a chance to relax my nerves. To put things into perspective, imagine hooking up a harness and climbing around an 8 story building. The harness does not assist you in any way. Things are cool until you look down!

Sweet Heissman. Your Indiana Jones on the town gear is riduculous however I'm glad you are off the couch and participating in reality. It reminds me of a quote I ran across that I kinda relate to.

"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in one pretty and well preserved piece, but to skid across the line broadside, thoroughly used up, worn out, leaking oil, shouting GERONIMO!"

That sounds like fun. I enjoy doing those stupid little rock climbing walls, though you're perfectly safe doing them. Are you saying your harness wouldn't save you from falling? If so, you're right, that does sound pretty scary. But worth doing now that you've lived to tell the tale, no?

You'd fall between 3-12 feet before stopping by slapping up against the rocks. After that, I am not sure what would happen. You might be able to find some holds to climb back up - but I think you'd tangle there. There is nobody to lower you down. After I finished, I wasn't too sure if I needed to do it again. But now the memory of my fear has faded, so I might give it a go again.
