Just saw X-Men. It was way better than the first and I nearly crapped my pants during two sweet scenes. #1 Nightcrawler going berserker in the beginning. #2 Wolverine going ape-shit at the mansion. I won't elaborate until everyone else has seen it though.
Also, the preview for Matrix Reloaded blew my fucking mind.

I agree wholeheartedly. I am pretty sure that John and Jack are getting out of the movie right about the time I'm typing this so I won't worry about spoiling anything for anyone:
It was way better. The opening scene kicked all kinds of ass. Nightcrawler was never that sweet in the comics. Loved it. I also loved it when he saved Rogue when she flew out of the Blackbird. Fucking sweet.
I also agree about Wolverine. That was so fucking sweet when he saves Rogue's and Bobby's bacon from those four commandos. Damn, I want to see that again.
I also loved Colossus' small role. When he "suited up" and knocked those motherfuckers through the wall, I was 6 years old again.
Pyro was kickass blowing up cars. He isn't much in the comics but he was sweet in this flick. I also loved when Magneto told him "You are a god among insects. Don't ever let anyone tell you any different." Classic.
Speaking of Magneto, his prison escape was so damn cool that I was cackling with glee the entire time.
Overall, I just can't believe how NO ONE, not even the highly overrated Halle Berry, managed to stink this movie up! The performances were excellent all around. My only (slight) disappointment was the Wolverine/Lady Deathstrike fight. It was alright, and kind of fun to see two people slice each other up for a while, but let's just say that the choreography left me still wanting the Matrix. (Oh, did you guys get a new Hulk preview, too? The one I just saw was jaw-dropping)
And Jack/John: what was the deal with the ending, do you think? Was that the shape of a phoenix I saw in the water?

Hey Bert, what happend to the Senator in the first movie. I thought he just turned into a blob of water and dispersed into nothing. It's been so long, I can't remember. I thought he was dead.

He is dead, but Mystique showed up in his place at the end of the first movie. She's been impersonating him ever since. Hence the yellow-eyed stare he gave Stryker in the White House.

Saw the Hulk preview. It was sweet but I don't think anything is going to beat Matrix this summer.At least they make him huge like the comic.
I was overcome with joy when Wolverine plunged both his claws into the soldier in the kitchen. If knew right then and there Bryan Singer hadn't failed me. I was a little worried that they might not want to show Wolverine getting down to business raw daddy dog style because it might offend the little children and their faggoty parents. Instead he unleashes a 55 gallon drum of whup ass.

In the opening moments of the movie, I was shocked at how fucking sweet Nightcrawler was. The combination of teleporting, kicking ass, and raw agility was quite possibly the high point of the movie for me. Don't get me wrong, I loved the whole movie, but that begining scene was kick ass.
In the end I too saw what I thought was a phoenix in the water. We on the other hand did not have a Hulk or Matrix preview, which sucked. I now feel a bit cheated for having missed out on this.
Anyway, everybody in our group seemed to love the movie. The same can not be said for everyone in the theater though, Two people were complaining it was the worst movie they had ever seen. I could not believe my ears, they burned upon hearing this crap spew from the mouths of these idiots.
X2 was a great movie and I'm looking forward to seeing it again very soon. It's a film that warrents multiple viewings, even Jack agrees with this. Heck, I may see it again before the weekend is out.

I agree, the beginning was probably the high point. I was thinking how, if you subtracted the teleporting, he was moving like Spider-Man ought to. Sam Raimi should take some notes.
Those people in your theater were fools. This isn't anything new though.
And I wish I could see it again this weekend but I'm leaving for a damn wedding in a few minutes.
Also, I did some reading online and the fans agree: that was a phoenix. And apparently Jean's transformation into the Phoenix was caused by dying in a similar fashion in the comics (which I either never read or forgot). How sweet would a Dark Phoenix movie be? That was, in my opinion, the best set of X-Men comics ever.
And no, the Hulk isn't going to beat Matrix, but I was actually shocked at how sweet he looked in certain scenes. If you download it, my 2 favorites are when there's a closeup of him as he turns around to notice some helicopters. If I didn't know better, I'd think there really was a Hulk, he looked so fucking real. Also, near the very end, he's screaming in a rage and he's shaking and moving just like a real person - not herky-jerky like CG characters tend to. Very impressive. Oh, and he's also FAR larger than in the comics. He's probably close to twice his comic-book-size, in fact.

Now, I really liked X2... but what bothers me are plot inconsistencies. Like, if Storm can create a sky full of tornadoes, why can't she whip up a wind to prevent the plane from crashing? Why doesn't Iceman freeze the water at the end to stop the flooding? And I agree that the Wolvie/Deathstrike fight could have been better. I don't mean to poke holes in the movie, but this kind of stuff bugged me.
I have to say that Magneto's escape was fucking awesome. So was Wolverine's dispatching of soldiers in the mansion... but you know, I want to see him REALLY go berserk some time and really tear shit up and kill people, but I guess that's hard to contain in a PG-13 movie...

Good point about the Iceman. I was thinking the same thing. However the velocity of the water (kinetic energy) would not have dissapated just because the medium had changed. What would have happed is a big glacier would have slid across the valley floor and crushed them. Either that or Iceman was too busy trying to figure out how to get into Rogue's pants without getting killed. My money is on the latter.
Nightcrawlers opening whup ass is on par with Yoda's for sheer "holy fucking shit" value.

I downloaded the Hulk preview and I have to agree with Bert, he really does look great. I especially liked how fluid his movements are. Also, he is tremendously agile for a being of such bulk. His ability to leap great distances is also consistent with his comic book version. Like Bert said, he seems to be about twice the size of the comic book character which I'm a fan of. One question though, how does he keep his pants on?
Magneto's escape was indeed "fucking awesome" to quote Swerb. It would be cool to have a purely adult X-Men movie where Wolverine could really unleash his fury. Alas, this will never happen so X2 will have to suffice. It seems the Bone may have a valid point about freezing the water. I too thought of Iceman freezing the water but wondered if maybe it was beyond his powers to freeze that much water at once. The Bone's thought also makes sense however in the comic book movie genre hard science usually is not a factor.
The opening scene was my favorite and far sweeter than even the Yoda fight sequence. I can only hope Spider-Man 2 will have him moving in as sweet a fashion. X2 seems to have raised the bar for the comic book movie genre as far as I can see. Hopefully in the future other comic book movies will take a cue from X2 in how to execute sweet action sequences like the Nightcrawler one.

Heather brought up the freezing of the oncoming water as well, and I also used Roche's explanation that it's beyond his powers. I've never seen him do anything on par with that. Also, Bone's comment is right on the money. Unless somehow he can project a RUSH of cold air to push back on the water. But yeah, I don't think he could have done shit. But why couldn't Storm? Possibly her control wasn't that fine-grained. In the first movie she wouldn't make Cyclops fly because she didn't have enough control. Still, you'd think just a general strong wind could do something. Then again, we are talking about a mass of water that probably couldn't be fucked with by natural forces, even a hurricane. In the end, I have no trouble with the ending, Jean Grey is the only one powerful enough to stop something like that.

I have to agree that the opening scene with Nightcrawler was awesome and probably my fav scene. That little blue shit can be an unstoppable, killing machine! Certainly it was the best fight scene in the movie. Some of the Wolverine scenes were so dark and fast, you couldn't enjoy his ass-whooping. I'd like to see some slow-motion Wolverine slice and dice action (moving it from PG-13 to R I assume).
Angie and I both thought Iceman would use his powers on the water in the end. Though it might have been too much for his powers, I think Iceman at the very least ATTEMPTING to ice things might have been warranted (to show that Jean's sacrifice was absolutely required).
During the mansion invasion, I would have thought that the younger mutants would have put up more of a fight. They basically ran like hell. Didn't Prof. X state in the first movie something about how he felt sorry for anyone that tried to take over the mansion? Granted most of the big-wigs were gone and the youngun's abilities weren't all fully developed, but still, it would have been cool to see more failed attempts at fighting back (Cannonball blasting haphazardly into a wall, etc.). Wolverine was sweet here. And Colossus too!
Mystique is sweet as hell too! Magneto is the man!

Did people laugh in you guys' theater when Jean was talking thru the Prof. at the end and Cyclops was in tears? I thought they were gonna kiss. Cyclops is such a dweeb...

Just seeing all these characters realized so well is a thrill! Can you imagine how sweet a weekly series would be? Impossible for budget reasons, of course, but there's so many great characters and stories to be told!
Bring on Dark Phoenix! And the original Beast too! Oooh! What about Emma Frost?
