The main way around Malta is on these crazy public buses. Most date back to the 1970s and all are well kept. They are everywhere and they are the cheapest way to get around.
Other Malta highlights..... Went SCUBA diving and got my Advanced Open Water Certification. Did a series of 5 dives - the more notable ones was a deep dive to about 120 feet, some cave dives where they filmed the movie Thunderball, and a night dive on a WWII wreck found a large unexploded shell (Didn't get too close to that!)
Malta is steeped in history, much of it happened before history :0. We went to see the Hypogeum - an underground temple that dates back 5600 years. Malta has the oldest temples known. Pretty incredible. Also St. Paul was shipwrecked on Malta. You can read all about it in the Bible - (available at most local bookstores)
Too many late nigths at the discos. The last day I was resigned to watch the new Harry Potter movie AND Apollo 13 on the IMAX. Potter was OK, I liked it. I forgot how sweet the Apollo 13 story was. I am glad I watched it again. I was a little mad because they had an IMAX of Shackleton. The had the wrong times up for the showings - thats why I saw Apollo 13 instead. When I came out, they posted the correction.
Malta is not a lush tropical paradise. The landscape is very harsh and rocky. They have only a few nice, sandy beaches. The water is superb. Very clean and clear, sporting some beautiful blue color.
I barely got to see all that Malta had to offer. I'd go back again just to try and see all that I missed.
