"Don't shit on the Shat!"

- Zilla
Explanation:
Zilla was talking about some of the featured guests of this year's Chicago Wizard World Comic Con and when it came to William Shatner Angie rained on our parade with some snide anti-Shatner comment to which Zilla replied, "Don't shit on the Shat!" This has now become a phrase used by Zilla whenever anyone says anything negative or is a downer. (Example: Swerb: "...more like the Amazing Spider-Meh"; Zilla: "Don't shit on the Shat!")

Speaking of Spider-Meh, what did everyone think?  I hate to say it, but I pretty much agree with Swerb: it was pretty meh.  I didn't need another origin story, and I didn't think this significantly improved on Raimi's version.  I did really like the characters, though, and Gwen Stacy was a huge improvement over MJ "Snaggletooth" Watson, but somehow I just never got very excited while watching it.  The Lizard was fairly uninspired, and even during the fight scenes which had some decent action, I couldn't muster up much interest.  There was somehow a lack of wonder of having these Spider-Powers and it felt very old.  Also, for all the talk they've been having about practical effects and new shots of Spidey swinging, I didn't think it improved in any way from an FX perspective.

Avengers was leaps and bounds better for my money.  Logan liked it, though, and wants to see it again.  Still, my sights are on Batman at this point - I'm over Spidey.

I thought it started slow, and I agree we didn't need another origin.  It's pretty much Ultimate Spider-Man.  But I really liked the 2 leads and he looks more like Spider-Man physically.  And although there is plenty of CGI I liked the use of more stunt work.  As sweet as Raimi's original Spidey's are, I always found a disconnect between Tobey/Peter and the CGI-Spidey, ya know?  But here... it seems more like Peter is the guy in the suit.  Lizard was ok.  I did like the fight scenes and Spidey's smartass remarks (more of those!).  But yeah The Avengers is better... duh!  It kills me though... I'd love to see this Spidey show up in The Avengers now.  It seems like the studios could work together and make that happen somehow...  Don't shit on the Shat!  (staying on topic)
