It's sweet that it sounds like she has a sense of humor about her lot in life. I bet you felt pretty proud of your statement upon your realization.

I believe you have moved on from faux-tard to A-hole!!! And speaking of being an A-hole, thanks for blowing off XBOX times last for Bionic Wednesday! After a long work conference, driving home during rush hour (not to mention 3 of the So-Cal fire zones), I was so happy to finally sit down in the new sweet gamer chair and play some Halo. I guess Halo can't compete with Bionic Wednesday Earth 2.

Ouch, Bunky! Someone's cranky! Actually, we went out to dinner last night, so I didn't even get to see Bionic Stank!
I was on Tuesday night of course, but I was playing Guitar Hero III. What's that? Yeah, it doesn't release til next week. That's how I roll.
Is it your Birthday today?

Rad - Yeah, I felt pretty sweet talking that way to a 'tard. What can I say? I'm an Equal Opportunity offender.

Actually, my birthday was yesterday. So while you were busy making fun of retards, I was alone and sad with my XBOX. I may need to spend some alone time in the gamer chair to cheer me up!! I am just giving you a hard time. I did the birthday thing with my family when I got home and then just checked to see if anyone was on... Jade and I had a discussion Tuesday night regarding the Guitar III sighting on live.

This story is so sweet that I refuse to believe it's true.

Zilla. I like how you show you learned your lesson by referring to her as a 'tard after the fact as well..... which brings out an interesting question. Why, exactly, are they called retards. Normal people don't have mental tardation. Shouldn't there be an element of Tardation out there before we allow people to have the properties of RE-tardation???
Or am I just being a retard?

You're being a retard. :)
"Retard" means "slow". "Tard" doesn't mean anything, beyond being a shortened version of "retard".
Actually I think they don't even use "mental retardation" as a clinical term anymore - they've moved on to something more PC, though I don't know exactly what.

I have heard the terms special needs child, developmentally delayed or challenged, and mentally challenged, all used by peditricians.
I have days where I feel mentally challenged, so I am not sure that term is much better than retard.

Why do some words become "loaded" or negative and then have to be discarded? What's wrong with "cripple" and "retard" for instance? Perfectly good words -- short, everyone knows 'em -- but we can't use them anymore. Why are they considered offensive? I mean "developmentally delayed?" Really? Retards!
I'm surprised "blind" hasn't been replaced with Ocular Deficient.

To be fair, I don't think calling someone a "retard" was ever acceptable - I'm pretty sure it's always been a derisive term. It's just that the more proper "mentally retarded" that has shifted.
I dunno, I don't really care too much what people want to call themselves, generally. It can get silly of course - but I think it's much crazier because in their case, I doubt most mentally retarded people have a viewpoint on what their collective name should be.

It must have French origins, the word retard. I remember waiting for a late train in France and watching the sign on the platform flash - RETARD. It was slightly offensive. C'mon, they didn't even know me yet!

Yeah, but they had specially built in retard sensors that you must have set off.

NickNick - Like that time I farted and set off the sprinklers?

Yeah, but you actually had a blue flame coming out of your butt for a minute or two after the fart. It was a rather odd sight.
