QUOTE 103 - 6 Comments

After a fumbled attempt on my part at converting Shemp's name to something like Sherlock Shemp, Bert came up with this gem. It was one funny moment in a weekend filled with stank. We had a fun time at the Thai place and I got to drive Bert's car which was sweet. Other than that the weekend sucked however I'm still glad I could help out. Bert's new place is really cool and I hope he gets to enjoy a good nights sleep soon.

Roche - Shouldn't you be working on your penmanship?

That's right, apparently my e's look like c's much to the chagrin of one retarded officer. I still can't believe he was trying to read my signature and not the print at the top. Then he had the nerve to be pissed and come in the room I was waiting in to berate me for my poor penmanship. He said he spent 20 minutes punching John C. Roche in the computer not John E. Roche because my e looked like a c. I replied with, why didn't you just read the printed part to which he grumbled some obscenities under his breath. Not only was he an asshole but he was also an imbecile. It seems that idiot police officers are rather ubiquitous as the station was full of them. All that over my penmanship.

The officer was an imbehole, or would it be an assecile?

Well, the latest in my insurance affairs is this: I finally got called back by my insurance claims adjustor last night, according to him, the truck is 11,500 lbs., which is over the limit of what my insurance will cover (Heather's insurance company has the same stipulation, apparently this is not uncommon). Anyway, he was unable to get any information as to the nature of the insurance, if any, provided by Budget to me. He claimed that when he would ask them questions, they would just say something like "I'm not aware of any accident," and refuse his questions.

So I spent a while reading all the fine print on my rental agreement and online and it does appear that Budget automatically grants me some amount of Limited Liabiliy Protection no matter what. It comes into play only if my primary auto insurance does not handle the situation, which is the case. It says that it covers only the minimum state limits, which I looked up for Illinois, which is $15,000 for property damage.

So I called Budget's claim number this morning and told the guy all my info, and got a claim number. It's now being handed off to a third party claims company, and they won't get the information until Tuesday. However, from what limited info the guy on the phone knew, he did say "they will be handling the claim for the damages to <the other guy's> car." As far as asking how these things typically play out, my guy was clueless though he thought that even without my specific info I might be able to call them before Tuesday to get a general feel for how this might work. So right now I'm cautiously optimistic.

Other tidbits: the other car was not insured. I haven't talked to them at all since the accident, but my insurance guy said he was calling them last night. I'm going to call them soon and give them the status. I'm also going to call the claims company and see what I can find out. I'm still sweating, but not quite as bad now. Even if I pay, I'm thinking/hoping that the procedure will be handled via the claims company and afford me some manner of shielding. However, if they're the kind of people without insurance, I doubt they have the financial means to try to railroad me in court or anything.

I should have waited to write all that.

I just got off the phone with the claims company after talking to a very helpful woman. Even without my claim information, she basically told me that I'm in good shape. She said that Budget's insurance only comes into play if mine denies coverage, and she just needs proof that my company is denying coverage, in the form of a letter. She even knew about the 10,000 lbs weight restriction through Progressive so all I have to do is have my first claims adjustor write something up. She said I'm covered for something like $50,000 - $100,000 in the state of Illinois, and started laughing when I said it was a Ford Taurus that I hit, as she said I'd be completely covered for it.

I cannot explain in words how good I feel right now. I'm not totally out of the woods but I'm probably pretty close. I still need to call the guy whose car I hit and explain all this but things are looking good, my friends...

Sweet, I'm glad to hear it, Bert. Hopefully this will all be resolved soon so you can relax and enjoy your new digs. Good luck with the rest of the bullshit if there is any to be had. It sounds like your just about done with this shit. Keep us posted.

On another unrelated subject, my computer was working fine last night. For those that don't know my computer was hit by that worm that you probably saw on the news. Bert was able to help me get my system back on line, thanks Bert. I appreciate that despite the stress you were under you still took time out to help correct my asinine computer problem.
