Here's a shot of me slicing a Stormtrooper's arm off in the new PC game Jedi Academy. For all you console suckers, NO, you cannot play this game.

Pretty sweet. I found a copy on the Donkey and I'm in the process of downloading now. Not that I don't have enough shit to play, but it will make me feel superior to those that rely exclusively on a console for their gaming style

I don't think I'll get this one. It's not that I have anything against PC games, I'm just afraid I wouldn't be able to "handle" this game. :)

Looks pretty cool to me, Bert. I like your purple lightsaber.

Jack, this game is right up your alley, man! Lots of ass whupping goodness. And Roche, that's *2* purple lightsabers I'm wielding. I also had the choice to go Darth Maul style and go for the double-bladed. You also get to shoot lightning at motherfuckers and choke their asses. And the graphics are phenomenal.

You're right, I see two purple lightsabers, sweet. The graphics from what I can see look cool as hell. I love me some ass whupping goodness. It looks like my kind of game as well.

Yes, you would definitely love it - I hope they release it for xbox but I don't see it listed on xbox's site. I haven't done much research to see what the plans for it are, though. Though I will still say that the storyline of KOTOR is far superior - but for those that place the value of action above all else, this is the Star Wars game for you.

Fuck story, I want action! If want story I can read a book or watch a movie. When I'm playing a video game I want me some action.

From: Ross Entered on: September 16, 2003 4:17 PM
I shit upon that notion. The action means so much more if there's a good story around it. Just like in the movies. All the best games have at least decent stories (even Halo!).

From: John Entered on: September 16, 2003 4:56 PM
That is true, but did you have to shit upon my notion? I know my notion didn't to much care for it.

So Ross, what is the story behind a system-link game of Halo? What is my motivation for killing the Blue guys? Or the Red guys when I'm Blue? Why must I defend my base or save my flag? Halo is just a sweet game, regardless of story. Dr. Mario and Tetris? Sweet and SIMPLE games... no stories needed.

This reminds me of the old Atari 2600 games that had a background story for EVERY single game. Even Super Breakout. Something about the paddle being a space ship, etc. etc. etc. Why must there always be a story?

I think Ross just likes story time. Didn't your mom ever read to you? :)

I guess I should have qualified the whole story thing by saying the "single player mode only." Online play doesn't need shit for story.

Hey, I have played many mindless games in my day that I enjoyed thoroughly. It's just that if all else is equal, I prefer a game with a good story. It's true that until recently, most games didn't focus much on plot - but I think that's because the medium has grown up some. That's why games like Half-Life knocked most of the critics in the industry on their asses - because it made the story so central to game, ON TOP of making significant technical achievements. So yeah, Halo is a sweet game regardless of story, but a good (though not great, in this case) story makes it even better - again, we're talking about single-player mode here.

On the other hand, some of my favorite old-school LucasArts games were purely story-oriented "adventure games." Games like the Monkey Island series, Day of the Tentacle, and Full Throttle. And now there's an Xbox emulator so you can play all those games (ScummVMX) again.

As for Red vs. Blue - that's deathmatch - there's no story except the trash talking that all yall are oh-so good at. :) Me? As you all know, I'm perfectly polite when playing, and am always courteous. A model of composure and decorum.

Indeed. I think it's utterly delightful how your pinky curls out as you prepare to snipe someone in the head. Or how you cover your mouth when you giggle over a successful grenade toss. So genteel and refined you are in these competitions.

I have a lovely recipe for crumpets for our next little skullduggery match! My trousers are dampened just thinking 'bout it! Hoo hoo!

Did you get this game yet, Bone? I'm having a fun ass time playing it. Here's another sweet shot of me fighting 2 Dark Jedi:

Not yet. My download got interupted and in the meantime I've been downloading Matrix Reloaded, Equilibrium, and Resident Evil. I'll get back to it at once though cause it looks sweet.

That looks sweet as hell, Bert! Now that looks like my brand of justice.

It's almost criminal how successful BT is for me right now. I am almost loathe to comment for fear of jinxing myself, but many files I've downloaded over the past couple of days have averaged about 150kbps! I'm pulling down entire CD-length files in under three hours! Unfortunately there is very little out there at this point that I've got an itch to download. I think I'll go play some Simpsons...

BT IS SWEET!

Hey Ross - I got Jedi Academy but it is 2 folders full of RAR files. How the fuck do I make it run? I'm a simpleton when it comes to this stuff.

- it's like winzip.

Bone - Get WinRAR! Then just use it on one of the RAR files and winrar will extract what you need from all the files. Pretty nifty, eh?

From: The Bone Entered on: September 20, 2003 7:01 PM
I've got WinRAR yet I'm not crafty enough to make this game run. There is no option to "run". Only to open, and when I do, it just shows me a folder full of files. Very Cornfusing. I'm going to bang around in the dark some more with my sledghammer and hopefully I'll figure it out.

From: Ross Entered on: September 21, 2003 2:03 AM
Usually these files are packaged suitably to be burned to CD - in the format of bin/cue or iso files. What is the extension of the file(s) you have? I'm sure we can figure it out if you tell us. When I got it, it was bin/cue files which are basically CD images.

Here's the latest bullshit related to downloading. This one sucks particularly bad for a few of us because we use Comcast:

You know, I pay 60 goddamn dollars for Comcast's fairly decent (although not great) service, and they want to increase speeds while keeping costs down? Far as I'm concerned, for $60 a month, I should be able to download Australia in its entirety. And they don't want to put a number on downloading limits... because they're stupid. It's like sign reading "speed limit: something. Just don't drive too fast." I hate huge corporations...

From: The Bone Entered on: September 22, 2003 5:25 PM
Earthlink baby, Earthlink! Great service, great connection speed. No mention of download restictions which I'm aware of.

From: Ross Entered on: September 22, 2003 7:37 PM
Well apparently Comcast hasn't really made official mention of it either, which makes it all the more irritating. Just if they feel you are not adhering to "normal usage patterns," a very nebulous term, you can get busted. Bunch of fuckwads...

Yeah, bunch of fuckwads... I really have no idea what I'm talking about, but they do sound asinine.
