This does look fairly promising. I just hope that it doesn't take the expected plunge into camp like the last set of batman movies did.

I really don't know how I feel about this yet. I loved the fist one. I'm not yet sold on Heath Ledger though. Maybe he'll surprise me but I'll have to see some trailers before I'm excited.
I am excited for the upcoming Will Smith film about the last man on Earth. I Am Legend I believe it's called. I like the premise and it could be good. Everything else seems too far away to think much about yet. I am certainly going to like Iron Man though.

Is there still a long preview with The Joker attached to I AM LEGEND like I heard a while back? That would be sweet!
That movie (I AM LEGEND) looks good to me too. I had a childhood memory of some movie that aired on TV years ago that I never forgot: The last man on earth wondering the streets and finding these monsters. Turns out it was Charleton Heston in The Omega Man, which I finally watched as an adult a couple years ago. Someone told me that I AM LEGEND is based on the same story, which makes sense from what I've seen. I love end-of-the-world tales!
Bert - Have you read The Walking Dead yet?

There's too many movies I want to see coming out. Golden Compass, The Mist, The Spiderwick Chronicles, I Am Legend, Beowolf.
Let me know when everyone's going to see I Am Legend. I'd like to tag along. I've got some mulah left over on my movie card from last christmas.

Heath Ledger is going to be sweet, trust me. I predict he will make all the reviewers talk about how he did a better job than Nicholson and that they never would have thought it possible. Hell, at least he looks like the Joker of the comics. I am sold on Ledger's acting ability, I have complete faith in him.
As for end of the world stuff, I haven't read the Walking Dead, haven't seen Omega Man, but I am looking forward to I am Legend, barring critical panning. As a coworker said, though: will Will Smith wake up one day, see that everyone is dead, and go "Oh HELL naw!"? I think at this point that's his "I'll be back" tagline, isn't it?
Speaking of those types of tales, I heard that Y: The Last Man was going to be made into a movie and that Shia LaBeouf is being considered for Yorick. I actually think that's perfect casting. Though another coworker had it right when he said that the comic would work better as an HBO miniseries.
Oh, and my TV just got delivered! Expect copious updates and more frequent Xbox Live Ramshackleton appearances forthwith!

Bert - After the quality of Sopranos, Deadwood, Rome, etc. I find that most comics would be better represented by an HBO series than in a movie, Y The Last Man included. The Walking Dead would be crazy sweet as an HBO series! I heard they are doing Preacher, so that could be interesting.

This is fucking sweet (also it looks like he's standing on LaSalle street, roughly in front of my office):

Forgot about this one:

The new trailer is out here:

It's pretty sweet! And I know I sound like a broken record, but it appears that LaSalle street in downtown Chicago is the main drag of Gotham city. Practically every scene on a street takes place either in front of, or within two blocks of my office.

Did you not see any of the filming take place?

Some of it, but not as much as I should have - the scenes with all of the cops marching down LaSalle was shot during a workday, but I was on paternity leave! A bunch of my coworkers did see it though, and laughed that I wasn't there since I am by far the biggest Batman fan in the office.

Heath Ledger is dead, so I am not sure how that is going to effect the movie...

HOLY FUCKING SHIT!
That's crazy! Well, yeah, what she said. How will this effect "The Dark Night" as Yahoo puts it?

Holy Shit Batman!
More people will certainly see the movie because of his death. Non-comic book movie watchers will come out to watch this one now... you know, those Brokeback lovers.
This sentence bothered me in the story:
'Police said Ledger was naked in his bed with an unknown number of sleeping pills near the body.'
Damnit! If only there was some way for us to know how many pills there are.... we could solve this case!
They're the police... maybe they should have counted them. I know it was the dumb reporter's writing.... I hope.

I was listening to the radio on the way home from work and this was mentioned. He probably killed himself upon reflection of his Brokeback scenes, I know I would.

Far as I can tell, principal photography was finished on "Darkk Night," and it's in post-production... if there are any re-shoots needed, well, Nolan is shit outta luck.
I love the senstivity of this post... "the guy's dead - but what about the movie?" Of course, what everybody's thinking, and what every article I've read dances around, is the status of "Dark Knight."
Too bad, I kind of liked Ledger as an actor - I'm confident enough in my serxuality to admit he was really good in "Brokeback" - and from the previews, he looks like a totally disturbing, badass Joker.

It is a horrible thing when anyone dies that young, famous or not. Especially when there are children involved.
I did enjoy him as an actor and like the fact he always played different roles instead of locking himself into a stereotype. I was looking (and still am) forward to seeing him as the joker.

My apologies in advance for this....
'He had an appointment for a massage at a residence...'
Clearly, he did not spring for the happy-ending.
That one came when first reading the news, but I had to wait the standard 10 hours out of respect. What is Swerb talking about anyway? We've got sensitivity.

I think we are all very sensitive.... Apparently Swerb did not read the Nick Nick threads yesterday and feel our overwhelming compassion for his situation....
You are so bad Fatty. Funny, but bad....... You just dropped our sensitivity rating down another notch.

I too was secure enough in my man brand to watch Brokeback and also thought he was really good unlike others on the sight that won't even give the movie a chance....... Zilla.

That's right ASSHOLE! It'd be too much of a burden to live with the knowledge that I kissed a man, but that's just me. Well, I better get to killing myself.
Honestly, I was taken back by the news and it is is sad when someone as young as he was dies. The first thought in my mind was'nt is Batman finished although it did'nt take long before it occured to me. Damn, I hope Batman is finished.

Dude. Just like you showing off your crank to every fella you know doesn't mean you're gay, me not wanting to watch Brokeback doesn't mean I'm insecure "in my man brand." I don't have an interest in a gay cowboy movie just like I didn't have an interest in a baseball fantasy movie (Field of Dreams, which I've never seen either).
Bert! We gotta change John's name... he should be registered on here as JohnnyBells!

Well, it's not that easy... it's possible that it could be done, but it would probably be a while before I worked all the fornications out. It's not something I built into the system from the beginning. So basically what I'm saying is: "no."

I am enjoying the Bells Brand on here. I think it makes me hernie...

Wow. Those Westboro Babtist Church people are such wonderful human beings. I bet when they have a bake sale, they burn a young pregnant girl to bake the bread. They must be such a bundle of joy to be around.
So, when their male family dog decides to hump their male family cat, do they kill the dog or just march around his dog house with little protest signs?

Shit, man. I wonder what they'd say if he was actually gay.
One thing can be said for the Westboro turds: At least they're not masking their hatred with a pious facade.
Waitaminnit - doesn't Huckabee belong to that church?

Yeah, I have kind of been looking forward to Gotham Knight, but it could go either way - anime is sometimes sweet, sometimes over the top and absurd. And I don't know how it will work on a very American creation like Batman.
First of all. That preview looks full on sweet. I had to watch it without sound so I'm a little confused as to all the different batmen. I'm assuming that they're either different versions of Batman or during different times?
From the images, it looks like it will be the sweet brand of anime rather than the absurd. Akin to Akira. It might actually translate the Batman feel better than the standard animation they're using now.
According to the people interviewed, it's several interrelated stories done by different anime creators. So they're just different takes on Batman.
But I wouldn't be so sure of anything just from one preview. They always show you the sweet stuff - anime has burned me too many times to be taken in by one sweet preview.
Even though by and large American animation sucks badly, I doubt any Japanese verison will, on the whole, be able to top the 1990s Batman cartoon. That was the finest superhero cartoon ever created, bar none.
If it's anything like the Animatrix, it should be pretty good. I don't think there was a single one of those that I was dissapointed in. Possibly the one with the guy running track in it, but that's it.
You are right. On the whole, anime does tend to lean to the cheesy side.
I just watched Batman: Gotham Knight last night. Pretty good. Most of the stories were too short to have much depth, and ended before they really got started, but it definitely shows just how craptastic American animation is by comparison. I rather enjoyed most of the different takes on Batman. Thumbs!

Rad, now that you've seen The Dark Knight doesn't this statement seem absurd. Heath Ledger was quite possibly the sweetest thing about this movie. There was of course no way for you to know at this point how sweet Ledger would be but it's still funny to see you voice your concerns knowing what we all know now. Bert somehow knew it all along.

I just wanted to mention that The Dark Knight has already slipped into second place behind Titanic for the top grossing movies in history. It hasn't even been out that long but with a strong weekend it surpassed the 470 million mark domestically. It should have no problem getting by the 500 million mark and I'd love to see it beat Titanic at 600 million. The Dark Knight is still going strong so we'll see.

So apparently my concerns were unfounded about Heath Ledgers abilities, but to be fair my only point of reference was "10 Things I Hate About You" as I had no interest in the gay cowboy movie. Although it does bring up the question about what is worse, watching a movie about gay people or watching a movie that makes you gay. I suppose it's irrelevant as I'd classify Brokeback under both categories and 10 things only in the latter.
*waits for backlash*

I'm telling you, Brokeback was an incredible movie. Not to take away the very uncomfortable subject matter of the movie. I was doing ok until Heath Ledger spit into his palm at the heat of the moment. I'll let you all fill in the rest.

I'm skeptical of such statistics... first, because they don't take into account how many tickets were actually sold. When Titanic earned $600 million in 1997/8, the average ticket cost less. If you look at it that way, there's no way any film will ever beat Gone with the Wind...
