Anyone else looking forward to this? Jack? Swerb, have you read this? It's pretty frigging good. I borrowed the comics from Roche a while back and I'm very much looking forward to this movie.

The Ultimates comic series (that this is based on) is super sweet.

Bert - Has Bells loaned you his Identity Crisis/Current DC stuff? Super sweet stuffs!

I haven't read the series yet... maybe it's unfair or elitist of me, but I automatically assume that all superhero titles are shite, because most of them *are* shite. I'll check this out when I get a chance.

Swerb - I firmly believe in the "90% of everything is crap" rule. Just don't miss the remaining 10% and that includes super-hero comics. There's plenty of sweet super-hero stuff being printed. Just in the last couple years: The Ultimates, Identity Crisis, Supreme Power, Invincible (Image), Astonishing X-Men (by Joss Whedon) and I find basically anything written by Geoff Johns (a DC writer) is sweet.

On the video: I first heard about this direct to video release at last summer's Chicago Wizard World Con. Hopefully it's sweet. It sure should be. And hopefully the start of a new trend: More mature-oriented super-hero animated movies.

Swerb, Jack is right - lately, tons of good superhero shit has been coming out. This is quite good, actually. Also yeah, I've read the Infinite/Identity Crisis stuff too, which I also thoroughly enjoyed.

I would love to see some of this stuff end up as animated movies. Sounds like a really good idea - since it's not a TV series, people aren't as likely to misidentify it as children's programming.

Well, I watched it. Meh.

Unfortunately, it seems to be about standard Saturday Morning Style to me. It features the Ultimates versions of the Avengers, but the story is not the same as the comics and is missing all of my favorite parts (horny Hulk, Wasp exposing her breasts to distract Hulk, Cappy snappin' necks, etc.). The end fight with Hulk isn't too bad, but it's just not as good as the comic.

I just got done watching it and I totally agree. The end fight was actually quite good - think Justice League Unlimited super-powered fights but not as repetitive. Thor was sweet when he was fucking up the Hulk and the Hulk was super sweet fucking up the cocky Giant Man.

But yeah, all the interesting or adult themes were gone: bloodless combat (though people did die), nudity, Hollywood references, Pym's wife beating, Banner potentially getting the death penalty for the Hulk murdering innocents, etc.

Meh is about right.

Anyone watch this yet?  I don't know why I am.  I am about halfway through and I'm wondering what is possessing me.  Perhaps just the idea that there could be a cool Avengers movie.  Alas, this is not it.

Yeah, I bought it because I liked the first one. This one is pretty lame in comparison. The action is not as good and overall I would say that it was nothing special.

Fans of Robert Kirkman's INVINCIBLE comic:  Check out the MTV "animated comic" series; there's a preview here.

Is that what it's going to look like?  Comic panels with voice actors?  Hasn't animation advanced beyond that over the years?

Oh lord.  I truly hope that's not what it's going to look like.  That's horrible.  I actually had a fit halfway through and woke up on the floor.
