When/where was this taken? I can't imagine the French are into go-karting.

Dude, I raced some of these go carts in Bahrain. They were illegal for military because they were so dangerous. Of course that never stopped me. They are sweet. When I become rich, Im installing a track in my backyard.

This was at a track in Bullas (pronounced Boo-yas) When we got there we almost crapped our pants after seeing how insanely fast these karts were flying by. Then we realized they were competition carts and our adventure had been foiled (kind of like when you go bowling and find out it?s league night). But I suspect that the rentals would have been fast enough for my pants to be soiled.

Looks dangerous. But then again, I played Whirlyball last night and while it's much slower (it's basically lacrosse in bumper cars), you get banged up pretty good. I have big bruises on my hips where my seat belt prevented me from eating wall numerous times.

Actually, it looks like a cross between Bumper cars, Lacrosse, Jai-Alai and Polo. I don't understand the whole ?Whirly? concept ? was there any whirlying going on or is just some dumb ass corporate activity ploy. Please enlighten me on the rules.

No whirly - I have no idea what that means either. There's also an element of basketball in there - you shoot at a goal about the size of a hoop on a backboard but all you have to do is hit the goal, not make it thru any hoops. But it's harder than it sounds. So it's essentially the same rules as basketball, really - you score, the other team gets the ball. Games last an arbitrary length of time, in our case 13 minutes.
It's actually pretty damn fun, but of course I tend to yell a lot while playing...

On Saturday I went back to the track and this time we got to drive. Damn, go Karts are fun! We opted for the 300cc. class, man these fuckers can fly, I was burning rubber drifting around the turns, hugging the pianos as I negotiated the fastest racing line maximizing the acceleration out of the turn, braking at the last second, pushing the machine to its limits. At least that?s what happened in my head. Any one watching me probably just saw some dude putting around the track spinning out of control in the turns. But I had my fun, even if it only lasted 10 minutes. We got called into the pits early because two of the dudes I was racing with crashed into each other and ended up breaking the axle on one of the karts. They tried to make us pay $50 bucks, claiming that we were too reckless, the guy was pretty pissed. We talked our way out of it but I don?t think we can ever go back there again.
