This is Jack and his collection of Prince stuff. Why is this here? It's running in The Grand Rapids Press, of course!

Once again, Jack has provided his expertise on a subject for the Press. My co-worker Tricia was looking for a Prince fan to talk to for an article (he's playing in GR on Sunday), and I told her I happened to know one. Hence, the photo. This is a sneak preview of it; it'll be in Thursday's paper. I will post the article once it sees print.

Okay... I'm ready. Let the insults roll!

I'll go first: Why the hell is Jack so happy all the damn time? :)

From: Ross Entered on: July 26, 2004 2:26 PM
Okay, I'll bite. Why are you in your bare feet in this picture? Is there a can of peanut butter at the ready, hiding behind that poster perhaps?

The pose was the photographer's idea -- It was my idea to not wear pants.

My initial idea was a standing pose, in front of my stuff, looking up from reading the Prince-cover Rolling Stone mag. Thus I didn't think about wearing shorts and no shoes. The photographer had other ideas and we ended up with the shot you see. For the record, he assured me my feet wouldn't be in the shot. My lawyer has been contacted. :)

Hahahahaha, how did I miss that it looks like there's no pants and you're wielding a Prince guitar in a decidedly phallic fashion? I can't wait to see the GR Christian crazies descend upon you for your sick and depraved idolatry.

Don't worry, Jack's feet will not offend 175,000 GR Press readers... the photo will most likely be cropped to fit the page. Keep that lawyer on a short leash, Zilla...

I also like how you have a gigantomungous photo of Prince, and a teeny little b&w pic of your wife...

Swerb, it's all in how you spin it: "Look honey! I even managed to get your photo in there!" :)

Upon initial glance, before reading, I thought it was a pic of some looney Hari Krishna. Sorry Jack. BTW, why are you so happy?

Ha, the peanut butter! Gives new meaning to the term Jiffy-Lube

Is that Prince's bathrobe you have locked behind bullet-proof glass?

From: Jackzilla Entered on: July 29, 2004 4:49 PM
Creeko - I know your teasing me but... actually it's a custom-made jacket that Prince wore on the Arsenio Hall Show (which I have on video). I'm not saying its valuable, but I've never seen another authentic piece of Prince clothing for sale anywhere (including ebay). Draw your own conclusions. :)

And no, I've never tried it on...

Here's the article from the Press. The picture is B&W and fortunately has my bare feet cropped out.

No One Compares 2 Prince For Lowell Superfan

Jack Reedy sees himself as one of Prince's
"number one fans."

He doesn't obsess about the musician in a
creepy Kathy Bates/"Misery" sort of way. Nor
does he dress like the flamboyant performer
when he goes to his concerts. Reedy just really,
really enjoys Prince's infectious music.

It's a healthy obsession -- but an obsession
nonetheless.

"As far as appreciating his music, I don't think
you could find a bigger fan," Reedy, 35, of Lowell,
said. "I try to balance it out though, so it's not
just Prince all the time.

Reedy's fixation on Prince's music career
began 20 years ago, when "Purple Rain" was
released and Reedy was in high school. For two
decades, he has followed the artist -- through
the highlights, lowlights and bizarre career twists.
"When he seemed to lose a lot of his fanbase, I
stuck with him," Reedy said.

Reedy, who works at Rookies Sportcards Plus,
a comic-book store in Lowell, has seen the
Purple One in concert "easily more than 20
times." He attended a concert at the Palace of
Auburn Hills earlier this summer and has tickets
for Friday's show in Joe Louis Arena in Detroit
and Sunday's concert in Van Andel Arena.

"He's an unbelievable performer," Reedy said.
Along with owning every recording in Prince's
extensive catalog -- including rarities, imports
and vinyl copies -- the superfan also lays claim
to plenty of cool Prince memorabilia. Included is
an exact copy of the musician's `Cloud" guitar
from the "Raspberry Beret" video and a red silk
jacket worn by the singer during an appearance
·on the "Arsenio Hall" show.

Reedy's wife, Angie, appreciates his collection
and shares a fondness for the performer. The two
have planned vacations around catching Prince
in concert, including shows in California and Las
Vegas. They've also seen him multiple times in
Prince's Minneapolis hometown, where he is
known to play impromptu intimate concerts.

"He loves playing little shows," Reedy said.
Following one such performance, Prince
treated many of his fans -- including Reedy -- to
a late-night screening of "Minority Report" at a
nearby theater. It was a move Reedy said is
typical of the artist.
"You never know what he'll do," he said.

Reedy said some Prince devotees he has seen
and met at concerts teeter on the edge of creepy
obsession by doing things such as wearing Prince
costumes and copying his hairstyle.
"You go to these things, and it can be like a
'Star Trek' convention," Reedy said.

While Reedy refrains from wearing his Prince
concert T-shirts in public, he will be the first to
tell you what is great about the performer.
"I've always been a huge music fan, and Prince
has always encompassed everything I like about
music. He's so prolific," Reedy said.

"He does funk, rock, soul -- he does it all."

Good article - you didn't come off as creepy at all - I'm impressed! :)

Maybe his purpleness' people will see this article and set up a meeting. You never know, this is how things happen. It would be better if you were a little boy in the hospital (See Bradey Bunch Episode 43).

FRONT ROW, last night baby! It was SWEET!

I can't tell if Bert is being factitious or not but I thought it was a cool article, Zilla. Maybe if you get sick Prince will come and visit you in the hospital. Hey, anything is possible.

From: Ross Entered on: August 2, 2004 12:01 PM
I'm serious. The article went out of its way to draw contrast between a Zilla-fan and a Scary-Mega-fan. Also by saying that he likes other music, he in theory precludes himself from being a fan who doesn't know shit about music but likes Prince for other reasons.

Sure Bert! I just like to say, sure Bert. I like the orange kind, come to think of it the lime is pretty good too.

From: Ross Entered on: August 2, 2004 1:20 PM
I almost corrected you that it's actually "sherbet" but it turns out that "sherbert" is also correct according to the dictionary. So "sure Bert" away.

I just saw this picture for the first time. I don't think I will able be able to get this vision out of my head. The next time I hear you say Purple Nurple, this is what I will be seeing....

From: Jackzilla Entered on: April 26, 2008 12:48 PM

Wow, I forgot that this sweet pantsless picture of me was on here!  And some things never change... The Roche's were over last night and I made them sit through Leno so we could see Prince perform.   He was funky.  Purple Nurples!!!   Laughing

I think it's the pants off dance off with the guitar on the crank that caught me off guard. Oh, and the fact you were clearly enjoying it!
