Wow. That rant puts anything I've ever done to shame.

Seriously, though: I can see being pissed off at the guy, and even yelling like that at him for 30 seconds or so, if you'd had a bad day, especially if he's done it more than once like Bale implies.  But for 4 minutes?  It sounds like it's one-sided, so it's not a back-and-forth argument, which could easily make it last that long, but just one long string of bitching.

I think Bale summed it up best: you don't know what it's like to work with actors.  Exactly.  I hope I never have to know.

I can see now why he had the issue with his wife or mom last year ,some kinda similiar bullshit , it was domestic abuse of some kind. She probably forgot to iron his shirt or get the mail or walked in front of him while watching tv. I agree on the time. Close to 4 minutes of him just going crazy is a bit ridiculous. I would love to see the video that goes with it. Seems like he's a bigger asshole than any of us and I can be a pretty good asshole if needed. My wife summed it easily with her comment, "WHAT A PRICK".

There are tons of people working on movie set, and because the Director of Photography walks in your line of sight does not give you the a right to be a dick and humilate the guy. You can hear the guy apologizing in the background.

The only reason he is sorry now is because the audio got leaked. It must have been pretty bad for the studio to send it to the insurance company in case he walked off production....

Hey Ross, this is for you! I had to find it on a different site because the You Tube video was removed....

I thought it was quite amusing. If i were the director of photography, I would have sat there with a shit eating grin....and some some jiu jitsu just in case.

Bunky - Bale says he apologized to the guy later that day and things were kosher between them afterwards - way before the audio leaked.

It would have been sweet if the D.O.P. had whooped his ass instead of apologizing profusely. To Bales' credit, he has said he deserves the criticism, but I have to question why you would think it's okay to be such an arsehurl and publicly humilate someone like that for 4 minutes straight?

I don't think it says much about his character as a person. Sure, we all have bad days, but I can't imagine being that big of an arsehurl even on my worst day. Nor, can I imagine taking a verbal lashing of that nature like a little bitch either, or being on the set and letting that happen to someone.

I may have been apologetic in the beginning, but after the first minute or so, my patience would have run out.

Bone, why would producer's send the audio to the insurance company if everything was fine on the set later in the day? Fattlock, do you need to investigate?

Last year he was arrested for supposedly hitting his mom. He was released and charges dropped of course. I guess from the great google info, he claimed it was to get money from him. I'm sure shes proud none the less.

I agree with Bunky, the first minute or so is one thing but to have him keep going on and on he needed to be knocked off his Hollywood cloud and given a real world reality check with a camera upside the head. As far as character, maybe he was just "acting " like a big asshole. He did state that he was still in character.

If his mind is wandering during a scene just because he's seeing someone walking around, that's his fault as an actor.  He's there to act.  The DP is there to do his job.  If he didn't get between the actor and the camera, he didn't do anything wrong.  I have bad days too, but despite my vocal Live presence, I would never go off on someone like that, even if it was their fault.  Talk about unprofessional.  You're going to make that dude feel like an idiot, so his work suffers, which makes you look worse, then the people he manages are going to get bitched out, so their work suffers, etc. etc.  One of the biggest problems in Hollywood (or the perception of people involved in Hollywood) is egos.  For $XX million dollars, if Bale is having a hard time concentrating, he needs to suck it up and put in a little more effort.  Douche.

For the same reason it's on youtube, cause they thought that shit was hilarious and felt the need to share obviously.

Robot, agreed. Bone, just curious, would it be as funny if you were on the receiving end of it? I can't imagine you taking a verbal assault like that, nor standing by quietly if someone were to unload on Bell's like that...

What are your thoughts on this Bone?

Bunky.  I'm impervious to that sort of shit. I don't take things too personally and I've been on the receiving of some pretty heinous verbal lashings in the Navy. My motto is "there is no stress if you just don't care". In the Bale situation, I'd just sit there with the biggest, ear-to-ear smile I could muster just to aggravate him further. If he attacked me fine. If not, I'd ask him if he was done and would he please get back to work.

My thoughts on the rancher - it's bullshit. As far as I'm concerned he can post some "pelligro" signs and get out his sniper rifle. Where I'm from, if a ninja trespasses, a ninja gets shot.

Bone,

passive-aggressive behavior is still aggressive behavior.  If you truly didn't care, you'd just let it roll (internally AND externally).  Someone who didn't care would diffuse the situation, not incite further response.  Several times, Bale tries to do this by saying something like "what's your response to that" or "answer me...".  He wants this guy to become violent with him so he's justified in his actions.

That said, I would do the same thing you described.  Smile and be really condescending.  The only difference is I wouldn't feign indifference.  That kind of verbal assault is an attack on your self-dignity.  It's human nature to protect oneself, actively or passively, even if it is cooler to say you don't care.

My biggest concern about all this: McG is directing the movie, and it could really suck as a result.

From: The Bone Entered on: February 11, 2009 11:07 PM

Robot - what you say is true if you want to get technical about it but my passive aggressive behavior is geared more to the fact that I can aggravate him further as a source of my amusement. All the better that he actually deserves it. It would be difficult for any human to truly not care however my emotional response would be much less than for example..other hyper-sensitive members of JA who will go unmentioned.

I'm just sitting here with the biggest, ear-to-ear smile I can muster for you Bone... Let me know when you are ready to go back to blogging....

What the FUCK is that supposed to mean, you pompous asshole.

I truly debated on whether to put a disclaimer on here or a smiley face, but then I realized that some might actually take that comment seriously if I didn't add anything.
