Sorry to hear about your brother, I hope he gets better soon. Hearing shit like that makes me feel like getting the pose together and going out on a man hunt. If they find out who those fuckers are, I hope they get a thurough ass kickin'

Well, I talked to my mom some more last night and of course the cops don't really give a shit: just another dude who got his ass kicked at a bar. However, one guy they interviewed said he recognized the fuck that did it. The recognizer claimed to be a bouncer at the Bucking Beaver and the asshole frequents that place. As luck would have it, one of my mom's good friends is a Sheriff's Deputy and he apparently has a buddy or two who are detectives and they are going to try to track down the bouncer and from there try to get the perpetrator. They'll need my brother's friend to help ID the bouncer but he is obviously willing to do so. So it sounds like there is a chance that they could nail this son of a bitch.
As far as Todd goes, he's still basically the same: he sleeps a lot but they wake him up every hour and talk to him, he can recognize people but can't necessarily tell you their names. But he still has full motor functions which sounds good to me but I don't know shit about shit. It's all up in the air right now as to how this will turn out.

As far as an ass kicking goes, Creeko, my first instinct was similar to yours. But at the same time, something like this really makes you think about violence. Would the guy who did this really learn anything by getting beaten to a pulp? Sure, we'd like to think so, but the reality is that in all likelihood it would only serve to reinforce his current behavior. Violence begets violence. That doesn't mean he should go unpunished. He should be forced to pay for my brother's medical bills and be locked up. Not that I believe that jail is any different than a beating - it simply reinforces bad behavior - but at least it would keep him off the street. I guess if the guy got killed that would be best solution because then we'd know he never could do this kind of thing again. But no, I don't believe a beating would help anything.

Sad to hear about the news. I hope your brother has a rapid and full recovery. Those guys do need to be held accountable. I hope the cops catch them and make them rue the day.

Ross I am so sorry to hear about your brother. I have limited experience with closed head injuries, but from what you say his prognosis should be good. I think that as soon as the swelling in his brain recedes his memory will get better. My sister had a similar accident a few years ago involving being kicked in the head and trampled by a horse. The only residual effect taht she has is some memory loss of childhood events. Also GR has one of the best rehabilitative hospitals around at Mary Free Bed. The have an entire unit dedicated to brain injuries.

Todd is still much the same, but they claim that for a bruise to heal in his head it takes the same as anywhere else - 3 to 5 days. He is black and blue on the side of his face, apparently from the draining of blood from the front of his head, which is actually good.
They know the fucker who did it. They just don't know where he is. Apparently there was a witness who got the license plate of the guy's car but the incompetent cops didn't bother to interview the guy at first. So anyway, after getting a kick in the ass from my mom's friend, they found the guy who owned the car, who, get this - claims he loaned it to someone he didn't know! So obviously that's a bullshit story but the guy won't talk, so they're charging him as an accessory (to what, I'm not sure). Anyway, witnesses have picked the guy's face out of a mugshot book and they're certain they know he is anyway. Now it's just a matter of finding him.

Ross, this is awful. I don't know what to say other than I'm sorry to hear it, and I hope he gets better soon. I guess it's only a matter of time until they catch the guy, who's obviously aware of the severity of his actions.
As for your comment on violence, yeah, everybody's immediate reaction is to find the guy and bash his skull with a pipe... but I think those of us who realize that such actions do no good at all - well, that's what separates us from the assholes like the one who assaulted Todd. I went through the same issues when that prick kicked me in the face at a concert a few years ago, but the only thing you can do is get past it and be supportive of your brother, regardless of whether or not the guy gets caught. I guess we should take comfort that if they do catch the guy - which seems pretty feasible at this point - your mom will clean his clock with a lawsuit that'll hurt him more than any beating...

My mom called today and Todd is doing much better. I talked to him on the phone today in fact. He talks normal but he does struggle to find words sometimes... he sounds like someone who is groggy and just woke up. In fact, that's what he kept saying: stuff like "I just woke up today...and... yeah, I just woke up... so... I'm not really sure... what today is." It's almost like a movie - he can't remember much of anything. He didn't know me at first but after I talked to him some more and said my name a few times he acted like he knew me (but I've heard of people faking this as well so I don't know for sure). Anyway, he's getting out of the hospital today though he has to go back Tuesday to have his deviated septum repaired. I'm going to try my best to get some time off and see him sometime next week so I might be in GR for a night. More info later.

Glad Todd is doing better. Hope that asshole is brought to justice. The sad thing is, nothing they could do to him would make amends for what Todd has to deal with. I'm sure he doesn't have much for resources, or much potential for any. At this point, I just hope they remove him from society for a long time. Random acts of violence on strangers is a scary thing. I hope Karma is working here and that he will get his in the end - literally.

I too am glad Todd is doing better. I have to agree with Fatty though, nothing will make amends for what this asshole did to Todd. Still, I would not mind giving it a try and whupping this guys ass myself. Of course Ross would get the first blows or perhaps Todd if he were up to it. I know violence begets violence but it's hard to abide random acts of violence. Would it solve anything? No it would not. It's just hard not ot gather the posse together and get this prick. I also hope this guy gets it in the end- up his pucker to be precise.

I just got off the phone with Todd. He's definitely getting better every day. In fact, at first I couldn't tell that he wasn't fully healed. Mostly his problem is that he doesn't know words for things, but he's like just out of a Discover magazine article: he can write down the words he wants but he can't associate an object with the spoken word. It's very weird. Sometimes he makes up nonsense words to get his point across and he's convinced he's saying the right word. It would actually be kind of funny if it wasn't also scary.
However, the bad news is my mom was feeding me bad information as far as the culprit was concerned apparently, the cops only have his first name: "Dave." The guy who borrowed the car from his grandmother loaned it to "Dave" but he claims not to know Dave's last name. Apparently the cops are now supposed to be finding the bouncer at the Bucking Beaver who can ID Dave.

That sucks, I hope they get this guy off the street. He needs to be in jail and I for one won't feel better until he is. I'm sure we all feel this way though.
