Burnout Revenge is Sweet!

Okay, I'll admit to not being overly impressed at first. Let me explain: I've loved the Burnout series from the start, and they're always changing up the gameplay, but Revenge introduces the element of being able to hit non-head-on traffic. That little bit has made racing easier in that there's less things to crash you. Also, the World Tour mapping system is a bit overly complicated. And the first few tracks (based on Detroit) are the worst of the batch.
But after playing more this weekend: Burnout Revenge is sweet! The tracks have gotten way cool -- beautiful, really -- with lots of shortcuts and branches off the main courses you can drive on. Lots of hills for getting air. And graphics are as fast and crisp as ever. I swear this series puts every other racing game to shame. I tried the demo of the new Need For Speed, and even though it seems to improve over the last game, the graphics are choppy compared to Burnout.
Race on! My rating is currently at INSANE!
Also worth trying is the new Marvel Nemesis game. The fighting reminds me of the Prince of Persia games but with different Marvel heroes (Spidey, Thing, Daredevil, Wolverine, etc) and completely destructible environments. It even has a two-player fighting mode that's great fun.
Anybody playing anything else or are we all a bunch of old, tired, boring working stiffs these days? |

Topher Grace as Venom? Huh??? If it's true, he's going to be 95% CGI...

Well, I always thought that Topher would have made a good Peter Parker (not that Tobey isn't great). I wonder... as it is, the origin of Venom's costume needs to be drastically altered to make it ready for the screen... why not make him more like a true parallel of Spider-Man - like his dark side?
Then again, I could swear I've read that Sam Raimi doesn't care for Venom. This could be BS. I guess we'll just have to wait and see...

I'm not a fan of Venom either, and I don't know how an actor could reallly play the part. It doesn't make much sense to me, so it's probably baloney.
And they should just make a Secret Wars movie to explain the origin. That wouldn't be stupid at all...

I've just started reading the Ultimate version of Venom's story: much better. (Starts at issue 33 of Ultimate Spider-Man if interested). Basically Eddie and Peter were childhood friends, and both their parents were scientists who "invented" the Venom thing. It stayed locked up until Peter and/or Eddie got it out of the lab. I actually found out about this from the Ultimate Spider-Man game, which is based on the comics. If they do that storyline in the movie, it might be okay. Only thing that worries me is that it's two-villain syndrome, which is bad news in my opinion. I personally don't know why we need Sandman in there at all...

I haven't played Ultimate Spidey yet, but I've been playing FarCry Instinct the last couple nights. Yesterday, 5 of us played multi-player which was pretty fun. We still ended up playing a little Halo, but we did play it a LOT. One cool feature we didn't get a chance to test was the level editor: You can make your own multi-player maps! Very cool.
Tonight I played the single player campaign with Joe and then with Tom (taking turns playing). SUPER SWEET! I think this is the funnest, coolest FPS single-player game since Halo. I loved Riddick, but it may be better than that. It's just the right difficulty, never being tedious (Riddick had a couple tedious parts), the enemy is smart and moves about, the weapons are super cool. And you can drive vehicles (in first person unlike Halo which switches to third person). It's a bit hard to drive at first, but super cool and you can run over people and shoot too!
Also, the environment (on an island) is really pretty with lots of cool water effects. And you can swim under water! It's the best water I've ever seen in a game actually.
THUMBS!!!
Bert - Check it out.
Oh yeah, Burnout Revenge continues to be super sweet too. Ang and I try to play a little every night. We're up to MANIAC.

And Bert, Kirsten Dunst's babblings last week mentioned something about a third bad guy, which makes me believe that Harry Osborne might don his dad's Green Goblin gear, as alluded to in the last movie... man, I hope this doesn't turn into a Batman-style train wreck...

Jack, I played Far Cry when it came out on the PC. It's a very, very good game, I agree.
Swerb, I agree. The only thing that keeps me from freaking out is that Sam Raimi is still in control. My guess is that Venom will be the focus, Sandman will have a much smaller role, and the Harry/GG thing will be mostly setup for the fourth movie.

Bert - You may want to play Far Cry on xbox too. I believe they added a whole new element to it for the console. "Going feral" has never been so much fun! (And you don't get your cool, animal-like abilities til 2-3 hours into the game!)
