The Blood Gulch Chronicles
Entered on: May 8, 2003 10:15 PM by Ross
A fellow Halo player friend of mine showed me this site today. It is a series of movies done completely with Halo characters. They're a series of shorts based entirely in Blood Gulch, and the two teams against each other. It's pretty darn funny.

During the preview trailer I was like "what the fuck is this?' but it gets better! I've only seen that and the first episode and its hilarious! It's like a Kevin Smith film with Halo characters! I think these will warrant viewing at the next Halo-Frag-Fest!

On a XBOX-GEEK sidenote: Xbox Media Player is awesome. Have I mentioned that yet? There's been many a time when my new computer couldn't show a video but XBMP always comes through! Here's the latest: The Blood Gulch Chronicles download in ZIP form. But you don't have to unzip them to view with XBMP! It unzips automatically in real-time and then plays! And I'm streaming through a network! SWEET! I'm gonna zip all my movies up to save space! :)

This reminds me that Jack sent me the link for a Halo 2 preview. It was phenonmenal. The game seriously looks revolutionary - it's all based in cities, and the warthog is back, but it's even sweeter (the gun isn't a machine gun anymore). And the graphics look even better. Here's the link, it's in quicktime:

Also, I just found out that Doom 3 will be out for xbox. Although the PC version will whup its ass in terms of graphics, I will still get the xbox version just for the gaming fest aspect of it. I think it will should give Halo a run for the money for multiplayer fun. They have a preview as well but it requires a free registration to download it:

HALO 2 looks unbelievable. You can take over the purple vacuums from the aliens! Aliens and Marines are driving vehicles -- all of which you can shoot down, ride with, take over... looks just awesome! I'll be playing this video for the boys on Saturday night when we game.

Fatty got three more chips from Easybuy2000 today (ordered a couple days ago). They rock! Who was bad mouthing them again?

Regarding upcoming games: I read that Rockstar's exclusive agreement with Sony regarding Grand Theft Auto ends next year. Expect GTA for Xbox in 2004! Hopefully updated to take full advantage of the box!

Me, I was bad mouthing them. And I always will. Your anecdotal evidence of good service does not trump my (and Bone's) anecdotal evidence of poor service.

Speaking of GTA, I just got Vice City for the PC. Haven't played it yet though. I'm pretty excited.

First of all easybuy2000 can suck a fat dick. Not only does it take nearly a month for me to get my chip - the chip I did get was defective. However, I overcame it.

The BoneBox is up and running. Fatty talked me through it over the phone and it all went well except as I was aligning pins, I noticed one that was popping clean off the chip. I ended up putting a little electrical tape on it and it's holding for now.

Many thanks to Jackzilla and Fattly. The BoneBox is sweeter than I had expected. You guys have some skills.

So you have the hard drive installed and everything?

From: The Bone Entered on: May 16, 2003 10:03 AM
Hard drive is in, BoneBox is fully online.

Nice. Did you get any new games along with all these goodies? Did they put in a silly dashboard for you?

From: Jackzilla Entered on: May 16, 2003 10:45 AM
Good news! The Bone has now fully joined our ranks: THE BONEBOX LIVES! I'm glad to hear you got it working. Too bad about the busted pin -- It seems like there ALWAYS has to be a problem!

My brother just picked up his CATBOX and is excited to get to playing it with his daughters this weekend (Brittany and Olivia can kick ass in games!). I predict HALO non-stop for him for a couple weeks. He loves that game!

The latest here: I'm thinking of adding a box (with Xbox Media Player) to my stereo setup. I would use it for playing my growing collection of MP3s on the computer. It would replace my tape deck component. Then a monitor on top of the stereo stand. Everything black. It would look slick! Of course that gives me another box for network play too...

Fatty! We need more chips!

Why would you need another one to do all that? Furthermore, why would you need another display for it? What's wrong with your 36" TV and your current Xbox?

Or are you talking about putting this in another room? Actually, that's not a bad idea. Not for me, of course, my place is too small and I already have computers within spitting distance of any point. But for $180 you can buy an xbox, for another $50, you get a chip - and suddenly you have a multimedia hub to service a room. Even if the room wasn't already equipped with a stereo, you can get speakers for the xbox that supposedly sound pretty good for fairly cheap. Then all you need is a TV. Not a bad deal.

Actually that reminds me, I'm building a new computer soon to play all the latest games (Half Life 2, Doom 3, etc). As soon as I have confirmation of my next bonus from work, I'm ordering parts for it. It will use some of my old parts (mostly drives and peripherals) and the old one will become the new web server for increased jackassery goodness. The specs of my new gaming box will look like this:

Intel P4 2.66 Ghz
Abit BH7 motherboard w/ 533 Mhz FSB w/ onboard 6.1 audio & network
512 MB PC2700 DDR RAM
ATI Radeon 9700 128MB
(the above is all new - totals only about $600, believe it or not)
Plextor 24x CDRW
Pioneer 104 DVD-RW
60, 80, and 120 GB 7200 Hard disks
Win XP

Hence, the new web server will look like this:

Athlon Thunderbird 900Mhz
512 MB PC133 SDRAM
120GB HDD (not sure of this yet, this will be purchased for about $100)
Redhat Linux 9.0

This machine has twice the processor of the current one and twice the RAM. I intend to upgrade the server software that runs this site as well, and I will be adding some features just for the hell of it since the machine is more powerful.
