Good lord my cable modem is fast!
Entered on: December 9, 2004 10:19 AM by Ross
I just downloaded the most recent episode of Lost (great show) in record time. After changing the default ports for my bit torrent client, I am once again getting screaming speeds (between 350-400KB/sec). Note in the logs below that I downloaded a 350MB file in a mere 17 minutes!

09:47 [General] -
lost.s01e11.hdtv-lol.avi Completed
09:30 [General] - Starting download thread
09:30 [General] - Setup was a success

Ross - Ang & I have been watching LOST too! We've watched the first four episodes so far and dig it.

I happen to be downloading that very same file RIGHT NOW (lost.s01e11.hdtv-lol.avi). It's going 1-2 kB/s for me. WTF!?! Now most things I might get upwards of 20-70 kB/s, but 350-400KB/s? That's crazy talk.

Lowell Cable is definately bringing down my sweet factor.

One thing you can try, like I did, is to change the ports that your client uses. From what I've read, many ISPs will limit your downstream on the default bittorrent ports (6881-6889). I just picked some random ones like 50000-50009, changed my router's port forwarding rules accordingly, and tried a new torrent. BAM! Instant speed! Not saying that's necessarily the cure to what ails you, but it's worth a try.

Jack, if you aren't already, you might try the torrent hosted by tvtorrents. Obviously this one is really well shared by them:

Thanks for the hints, Ross. When I'm feeling more adventurous I'll mess with the port business. My cup if full after all that 400gig xbox shenanigans!

The only thing I got going for me is duel downloading (home and work). And I picked up one of them sweet external USB2 cases and slapped a cheap 250 gig in it. Then I can bring stuff back and forth. Remember when 320K 3-1/2" floppies were sweet for transporting? Now I'm sticking 250gigs in my coat pocket. Crazy.

I love this quote!!! I think I heard it first over here in France from one of my Tech. Profs. I don't know why, but I always get the image of Ross' Dad driving the station wagon.

ZAGNUT (Zilla's Alcove for Gaming and Neverending Unrelenting Trashtalk) is pretty much complete. The bathroom isn't finished, but the carpets down and 4 gaming stations are set up. Yes, a fourth TV has been added to the mix. Plus, along with the leather sectional and leather comfy-chair, we now have nice padded folding chairs (bringing lawn furniture into the basement has always been less than ideal).

Johnny and I (along with permutations of Radmo-STANK, WonderFUCK, PUMPKIN-pie, lilgurl, MONKEY, Dickhead, etc) have already enjoyed the Brave New Style more than once.

Let's plan a showin' over Christmas break!

Tasty and Sterb - Thanks for stopping out last night! That was some FUN Halo 2 and Ghost Recon 2 action!

Fatty - Ghost Recon 2 is another game right up your ally, buddy. Everyone seems to agree that its way better than the first. And its HARD. 4-player co-op on 4 TVs system-linked in the ZAGNUT is SWEET!

Interesting rumor regarding Halo as a Xbox 2 launch title:

Personally, I think if Microsoft is planning on releasing Xbox 2 WITHOUT some kind of improved Halo they're Nuckin Futs! Doesn't have to be much, just improved graphics, etc. Maybe some new levels. I'd love to have all the Halo 1 and 2 levels and some new ones. They could even include the REAL ending to Halo 2 as a bonus (or not).

Yeah, that is a sweet game. Problem is I missed it and now I need to find a copy for myself. :)

I thought I played GR2 or is this a new download? It was like GR1 but I don't think we tried the multiplayer. Something else to look forward too!

That was just an expansion of the first: Black Arrow. GR2 is a totally new design. And is sweet.

Or you might be thinking of Island Thunder. Never played that one myself, either.

From: Jackzilla Entered on: December 30, 2004 1:29 PM
Ross - That's it. Island Thunder was the expansion GR game. Black Arrow was Rainbow Six 3 expansion. *Whew!* Hard to keep track of this stuff.

Then of course this season we had Call To Arms, Conflict Vietnam, Purple Haze, Red Mercury and on and on and on...

I'll check it just as soon as I get back from my two weeks of paid X-mas vacation. I hope it's not too much to read because I get Thursday/Friday off too for the Three Kings.
