Basically, they have unearthed a series of tiny (3 foot tall as an adult) human-like dwarfs on a small island near Indonesia that lived alongside modern humans, around 18,000 years ago. They appear to have been ancestors of Homo Erectus (tiny versions of early H. Erectus, basically) No one has ever suspected that human-like beings lived this close to modern day. It literally is something that will re-write the book on human evolution (or at least amend it)

Ya - I just read this in the Financial Times of all places. I was going to post the story - but Ross beat me to it. Its freaky to hear about the frodos.

I heard the reports on NPR yesterday, too, and a commentator said there has always been oral history about "little people" living in that area. Quite fascinating.
