Interesting. I've read a lot of these claims elsewhere, though never so many in one article. One question though: what's this doing in a body-building forum?

It's not nuclear, it's nook-ya-ler. Dumb hick Texan...
Anyway, as pertains to Bone's original article, I'm reading a book called The Best Democracy Money Can Buy by Greg Palast, who writes for The Guardian and other non-American news outlets (because American political journalism is a crock of shit, and he's right-on with his criticisms of it). The book is a real eye-opener on a lot of similar issues. I'm only a few pages into it, and it's riveting. Y'all should check it out, y'hear?

For anyone interested, I highly recommend this site that I've been reading for the past month or so. The most recent entries are all about Bush and his highly dubious policies and appointments. It's enough to make me want to scream:

Bush must go down. I dunno about John Kerry... but as Henry Rollins says, don't vote *for* a guy, vote in protest of another.

It's unfortunate that our voting system has to work that way - voting AGAINST someone. If we could vote for more than one candidate, this problem would vanish.

One of the commentaries was from a guy saying he is going to one of the prayer rallies to hold up a sign with Just
Matthew 6:5-6
For this passage:
"And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are; for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men... But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou has shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret..."

Thanks for the article. Scientists hate Bush, now historians. At least Don King likes him. I read an article yeasterday where Don King was promoting George Bush to the black voters.

Don King? Mike Tyson's nuttiness must rubbed off on him. I can't imagine anyone with the slightest semblance of intellect supporting George Bush.
We could post multiple articles daily about how Bush's performance is far from "exemplerary," yet I still am not reassured as to the results of the impending election. Whoever votes for him is truly an infantile retard.

I can't resists this one:
http://www.evilbible.com/Top_Ten_List.htm
(Deuteronomy 22:28-29 NAB)
If a man is caught in the act of raping a young woman who is not engaged, he must pay fifty pieces of silver to her father. Then he must marry the young woman because he violated her, and he will never be allowed to divorce her.
What kind of lunatic would make a rape victim marry her attacker? Answer: God.

Time for more political, anti-religious articles. This one is a gem.
http://observer.guardian.co.uk/comment/story/0,6903 ,535543,00.html
My favorite quote:
"It is only where religion is on the back foot, reduced to a minority practice, with an insecure tenure in society, that it presents itself as essentially peaceful and charitable. "

That was a great article, Bert. I like where he talks about keeping religion out of the puplic eye to lend neutrality and a sense of equality among people conferring on issues. All too often prejudice based on ones beliefs can sabotage any real progress on larger issues. I give this article the thumbs!

I just downloaded and watched a documentary series done by Nova called "Evolution" which I heartily recommend. It's 8 hours long, but worth the time. Here's the website:
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/evolution/
If anyone in GR wants to watch it, I can burn a copy and give it to them next time I'm in town. Otherwise, I got it from www.mvgroup.org which has lots of good documentary torrents. You have to register to get the torrents but it's worth it.

I'd be interested, Bert. Burn up a copy and the next time you're in town I'll get it and check it out. I finally watched The Elegant Universe and the Bullshit episodes you burned for me. As it turned out my media player was fucked up but Zilla fixed it for me. I really enjoyed The Elegant Universe even though much of it was familiar since I read the book. Bullshit is hilarious. Zilla downloaded a couple of episodes from the second season and we watched those the other night. We were all amused by their antics.

Excellent, glad to hear it.
By the way, Roche, before I forgot, I wanted to make sure that you are indeed registered to vote? I know you hate Bush but you ABSOLUTELY must vote - your vote is more important than you can know. Mine is essentially worthless (in a good way) - Illinois always goes Democrat. But Michigan is a swing state and it's anybody's game. Just want to make sure you (and Melissa) have your collective shit together on this one. It's too important to let it slide.

By the way Roche, convince me you will vote. It's super important. Like Ross said, MI is a swing state. I'm registered in Florida and I'm sending in an absentee ballot. We all know how close and important Florida was last time.

I got my absentee ballot today!!! Wow, everyone I've met over here, European and otherwise, hates Bush. With my sampling, I find it safe to say that the world hates Bush. The ladies in the school office offered to fill out my ballot for me, but I said, Don't worry, I am voting him OOOOUUUUUUTTTTTTT!
I am going to fill it out today!!! They even included a pencil. Its crazy small. I hope I don't have any hanging chads..........

Everything I've read in the Economist seems to confirm that the world hates Bush. Who can blame them? Not that western Europe is really any smarter (or dumber) than the US as they're just as prone to propoganda as anyone but the fact that we have practically no fans over there ought to tell Americans something. But of course it doesn't.

In Bush's defense, he did sign that bill that's greatly reduced the number of annoying telemarketing calls I get at home. So he's got that going for him.

Did anybody watch the debate? I think Kerry walloped all over Bush's ass. They were both repetitive, but Bush was more so. And twice our presimedent stressed that Poland was one of the U.S.'s allies... wow, impressive.
Kerry was just so much more poised. Bush definitely has a flavor for speaking plainly (and in overly simplified terms - like talking about how terrorists fight against freedom and knows freedom is their enemy - what terrorist thinks like that?). But I agree - Kerry carried himself in a more presidential manner, in my opinion. Bush got flustered numerous times and kept repeating himself about North Korea and I hope that people realize that he doesn't know what he's doing with foreign policy as a result.
Didn't Bush describe terrorists at some point as "folks with terror in their hearts" or something? Folks?
And how many times did Bush say being president is "hard work"? Sounded like a kid complaining to his parents when he brings back a bad grade from algebra.
I agree with you folks, I felt better about Kerry after last night's debate. He was fairly concise and straight forward. He is an ugly one, though, isn't he? And he's got no business smiling EVER. He looks like Frankenstein's Monster with Donny Osmond teeth.

I dunno, I think Kerry handled the flip-flopper issue pretty well. Most of it is Republican propaganda anyway, and, as usual, the Republicans harped on that issue afterwards, in total denial of what just happened during the debate. I watched The Daily Show afterwards, and Jon Stewart cornered Rudolph Giuliani, saying he thought Kerry's message was pretty clear, but Giuliani just kept repeating that Kerry is a flip-flopper - which seemed like an act of desperation to me.
Oh, and I think Bush said "messed mixages" once, too.
I caught the debate too and Bush came off like a dumbass which was no surprise. He said "it's hard work" so many times I lost track.

Yes it did, except when mine was finished, It had the arrows filled in next to Kerry! The chad reference was a joke.
The more I see of the campaign, the more I think Kerry's camp is fucking up. The are allowing Bush to say shit and not calling him on it. For instance, Bush says on the economy- Kerry 'is a tax and spend liberal, I'm a compassionate conservative' So what does that mean Mr. Bush? How does compassionate conservative relate to the Economy?
Plus, they let Bush go far too long defending the Iraq war and how the world is a better place with Saddam in jail. Well, not really - right now it is kinda worse, plus, it would be a whole lot better if Bin Laden was in jail (or dead!).
I fully agree, Fats. Bush keeps criticizing Kerry for saying "wrong war at the wrong place and wrong time" except that's exactly what it is. Furthermore, I'd rather be a tax-and-spend liberal than a no-tax-and-spend conservative. That, my friends, spells BUDGET DEFICIT. A huge one. So you run up the deficit, and let your successors clean it up by raising taxes, and you get to criticize them for raising taxes, when they were only cleaning up your mess. Lovely.
Anyway, did you notice that the ballot was fucked up? Look again.

Here is an election story you'll come to love. Well, a few weeks ago I sent in my absentee ballot. It was one of those pre-addressed, offical government envelopes. All I do is drop in my ballot and write in my return address. I spoke with my dad last week. The post office delivered the ballot TO MY HOUSE! Come on - what the fuck. I know I take the mail system for granted, but this..... How can you confuse the official preprinted government address on the front with my handwritten address on the back. I know it was just a stupid mistake, but I can't help but wonder if GWs monkeys had a hand in this!!! Michigan is no Florida, but this is my hanging chad. My dad said he'll drop it off at the correct place. Knowing my luck, his posessing it will invalidate the ballot and it will be tossed. There was a line on the ballot saying it was a crime or something to have someones ballot.
Oh well.............

Swerb - Thanks for the iFilm link. I just wasted an afternoon of studying by watching softporn shorts. Given any reason, Fatty is quick to procrastinate. So here I sat in the library, watching naked celebrities, surrounded by students studying. I have a final exam tomorrow.
I hope one of the questions is - What object did Liz Hurley rub over her body in a movie with Sean Penn?
Answer - An ice cube!
I hope they make that one an essay question. I'd like to dwell on the answer for a while!

Oh yes I?m proud to be an American!
I went to take care of some paperwork for my residency card today at the immigration building here in my town, which is infamous for being chock full of Arabs, Moroccans, Eastern Europeans and any other troubled ethnic group you can imagine. People actually set up camp outside waiting to get in. Not me, I just walked up to the front of the line showed my American Passport and I was in. I almost felt like turning back at the sorry souls and sticking my tongue out at them. Even after I was through the doors, I got escorted to the front of every line. It was sweet, I felt like a VIP.
The reality of it is that they don?t want blond hair, blue eyed pretty-boy Americans hanging out with a bunch of tired angry Islamic immigrants because the chances of me getting mobbed or killed are too high.
I could feel the angry stares, especially after being escorted to the front of the line where I had to take my Passport out. I felt like I had a sign on my head that said ?look at me I?m an American, my president killed your family?. But lucky, I was quickly escorted out and on my way before I felt my life was in danger.
I still have to go back and pick up my card 30 days from now. Wish me luck!

Yep - I was just thinking about this shite. Last night some French dude wanted to pick a fight with me cuz I am American. If I was a tad drunker, things would have been ugly. The dude pissed me off. Thoughts of the French legal system brought me back to reality.
Everywhere I go, I am judged first on being an American, then on who I am. Bush is saying that Americans are safer now than before 9/11. Not ones living abroad!!!! Not only are we unsafe, we are mostly hated - Ambassadors of GW Bush.
Can we get 4 more years of him PLEEEEEZZZZE!

Rather than my lengthy counterpoint, I will say that that GR press op-ed is poorly conceived because its central thesis is that GWB will be better than JK when defending our country. Then they blab and blab, but make not ONE SINGLE claim to support that thesis. Read it clearly. It was obviously written by a middle-schooler. I give it a D+.

And the Republicans now support McCain, whom they previously felt was less qualified to run the country than Bush. Bunky - do Republicans think Bush did a good job? Really? Republicans boggle my mind. By the way, this article is interesting.

Not any of the one's I know. Bush has actually made me consider voting for a Democratic for the first time!
It will be interesting to see the response from the Republicans after the election. McCain seems to finally be separting himself from Bush somewhat, at least that it was came across in his speech. It is hard to argue in favor of Bush for anything he has done during his presidency.
Most of my friends are Democrats and collegues are Republicans. After a few glasses of wine I usually get my ass chewed by my girlfriends about the Republican party.
I am on the fence right now, probably leaning more towards Obama. I need to see how the rest of the election plays out. The Republicans initially were running a dirty campaign I thought, and it was a huge turn off. I want to know where the politicians stand on issues, and not hear them rip apart their running mate.

I just got this great e-mail regarding the candidates. Quite refreshing.
Friends,
A few partisans will broil at this one. A few cynics will call me an idiot. I promise you, you won’t hear the following from any candidate or party, and you probably won’t hear it from the “mainstream media,” the “right-wing media” or the “liberal media.” But I think this election offers us cause for extraordinary celebration, and should call us to be the best darned voters and citizens this country has ever seen. So, I’m calling for an “appreciative inquiry” about all the good that is possible.
Think about this: after 230 years, which included a century of slavery, we have a man of African heritage nominated to be President. Not just any man, but one raised by a single mom; he made it to Harvard Law School, where he climbed the meritocratic peak with grades that got him on the Harvard Law Review, and by fellow editors who made him president of that review. I could wax on about his commitment to public service and his courage in standing up against a war that most were afraid to resist, etc. We should ALL be proud of a system that offers such a candidate. But wait,
We have a Republican candidate whose father and grandfather were admirals, who himself served admirably, and who couldn’t be cracked in a P.O.W. camp. He has fought courageously in the Senate, at times crossing the aisle to work with Democrats to get great things done, often speaking his mind when it was not popular. Yet we as citizens so often say “those politicians are all the same.” Although the opposing party in the Senate disagrees with what he stands for, very few challenge his integrity and character. We should ALL be proud of a system that offers such a candidate. But wait,
The Republicans have put a woman in the second slot in their ticket, a woman who’s a mom as well as a governor. People will argue about experience, but few can deny that the system has offered this real live person an amazing route into leadership, and you have to marvel at the way she has stepped up to the task. But wait,
Here comes a guy whose wife and young daughter were killed in a car accident just after he was elected to the Senate. He was going to refuse to be sworn in, but was convinced he could serve his country and still serve his sons. He commuted (and still does) 4 hours a day to tend to his home life. He’s fought corruption, at times - unpopularly - supported the president during war, and is now the Dems’ choice for VP.
We should ALL be proud of a system that offers such candidates. We get so down on our system. It’s true: These candidates, parties, and their supporters will – if the pattern repeats – spend much more time tearing each other down, and defending themselves from attacks than talking about a positive future for us. They are told by pollsters (who are just reflecting the numbers) that we pay attention to the negatives. They are being attacked (Biden went after McCain as a Bush-clone, and Palin oozed sarcasm to demean Obama), and they will attack back.
So here’s a crazy idea for us everyday leaders: Let’s focus on the strengths. Have discussions – you’ll need to start them – about whose strengths are really key at this time. Not who’s evil and bad. But who can shine the best for our great country. Not, “whose health care plan sucks,” but who really has a great plan that could work. By the time we’re done with campaigns, our winner has been so whacked and whittled and wasted that we almost ensure a divided country – where half is angry and skeptical, and the other half has to almost blindly support the winner. McCain is not a demon. Neither is Obama. Nor Biden nor Palin. The winners will need our help, not our ire.
Dissent and debate we will have with us. But we have power to uplift our dialogue, our reasoning, and our national mood, if we bring a civil tone and an appreciative mind, and
Lead with our best self,
Dan
