Splinter Cell - Pandora Tomorrow
Entered on: January 6, 2004 4:36 PM by Ross
There is a new preview of the next Splinter Cell out, and it looks awesome! The graphics look mostly the same, maybe a little better, but Sam Fisher has some sweet new moves (check out the part on the train) and it appears that you can go into 1st person shooter mode at times for some more run 'n gun type action.

Here is a BitTorrent link to download it. It's about 85MB.

Looks pretty cool! The multi-player modes could be sweet too.

Meanwhile, Halo 2 is actually within our grasp... maybe in April! I've read reports that it will allow up to two 16-player teams to play and that you can choose between playing on the human team or as a member of the Covenent!

I can't wait, Zilla! I'm all about some Halo 2.

I just performed my first soldering job last night to great success! What I did was a partial solder on a Matrix chip. Those things seem to go out of alignment a lot (although John's box and my ZillaBox never have problems - even after traveling with it a lot). The main pogopins make a good connection but that damn d0 point is the culprit. So anyways, I just soldered a wire from the alternate d0 point (bottom of the board) around to the Matrix chip. Works like a charm. I don't think we'll have any problem with this one anymore.

Fatty will be proud to know that I didn't make a carpet Furby either!

Next week is gaming! Tues - Saturday! Swerb, you coming out some night? I think JohnnyBells will be over most the week!

You think right my friend! JohnnyBells will be ringing some bells next week. I hope Dr. Swerbious can make it out one of those nights for good times.

Have you guys been playing Rainbow online anymore? I need to get back into that. I started playing PlanetSide for a while, which is a whole other level of online play - massively multiplayer. Picture a 1000-person Halo game, only with more vehicles, more weapons, different armor types, and just far more complexity. But it's subscription-based and my free one ran out. So I decided to fire up Splinter Cell on the PC. I played it thru in 2 days (it's quite a bit easier when you know what to do, but still very fun). THEN, I just found out that 3 extra levels have been released, so I got those, and just finished the first one. Man, I love that game! I am almost as excited for Pandora Tomorrow as I am for Halo 2.

I'm busy Tuesday and Wednesday nights, but I should be able to make it out after that. Really, my slumbering carpal tunnel syndrome needs a good awakening...

I hope to see you there Thursday, Swerb. We'll save you a spot.

Indeed! Thursday it is! I can't wait to find someone to POOP ON!

What time on Thursday? I really need to vacate the house due to Stacy having a chicks-sit-around-and-buy-candles-while-eating-floofy-hors deouvres party. Can I indoctrinate another fellow gamer (whose wife will be sequestered at the party) into the magic circle?

Splinter Cell is looking super sweet. Here's a link to their website with a sweet little film as well.

Got a couple Xbox rumors from Gamespot for yous guyz:

RUMOR: Electronic Arts and Microsoft are planning an Xbox Live version of Battlefield 1942.

Source: Throw a dead cat and you'll hit one. A live one works too.

The official story: "We continue to talk. Hopefully, the chatter on the boards continues to indicate a strong demand for EA Product on Xbox Live, which only works to continue conversations" -- EA vice president of marketing Chip Lange

What we heard: Originally, BF1942 was supposed to come out on the Xbox, but about this time last year, EA told GameSpot that it was canceling the title. However, given the subsequent success of both Microsoft's Xbox Live (750,000 subscribers at last count) and the enduring popularity of EA's online shooter, it looks like the two companies are considering rekindling their online romance. Given their flirtatious compliments to one another, you'd think they were already having hot make-up sex. "Microsoft is a great partner, and we've got roughly 20 titles in development for the Xbox," EA corporate communication veep Jeff Brown cooed to GameSpot. "EA is a great publishing partner," gushed Molly O'Donnell, senior manager of Xbox PR.

Bogus or not bogus?: The two involved parties obviously want to do the deed, so kiss and make up already! Those Nazis won't shoot themselves! Eventually not bogus.

RUMOR: Halo 2 is being delayed until summer 2004.

Source: EBGames and GameStop have changed their release dates to June 1.

The official story: "We're going to ship it when it's ready." -- Xbox Xecutive Robbie Bach

What we heard: The Bungie folks stopped responding to e-mails long ago, and Microsoft isn't too keen on revealing the day the Master Chief will touch down. Reliable sources tell GameSpot that the Halo 2 news blackout is so real that Microsoft PR staff have long been under strict orders to stay clear of Bungie's work area. And while online stores sometimes post ballpark figures for release dates, they will often quietly blow the lid off of the information that tight-lipped developers have worked overtime to conceal.

Bogus or not bogus?: Unfortunately, not bogus. [Me: Ahhhgghhh!! I want it!!!]

The Halo thing isn't surprising to me. April seemed too good to be true anyway.

BF1942 would be sweet, though. That's the biggest online thing going these days. I'd be curious to see how an xbox could pull it off though - usually it takes a pretty beefy server to handle a 32 vs. 32 shoot 'em up. If they cut back on the numbers of players, that would really reduce the fun factor.

Speaking of xbox, for those of us with Office Maxes around, you may have seen this stellar hard drive deal in today's paper. (80GB Hard drive for $20 after rebates). Swerb, you might want to pick one of those up for your xbox, dude. Zilla could instruct his little minions who want hard drives to get one. Granted, they're by no means very big as far as hard drives go, but at $20, it's the best bargain I've ever seen (without some creative price matching and whatnot). I just got one - though they ordered it, they didn't have them in-store, it's supposed to be delivered (to my house, free of charge) on the 4th of February.

Only crappy thing for me is if I want to use it in the Rosstation to record HDTV (works great, by the way), its capacity is less than 10 hours worth of programming.
