BATMAN: INTIMIDATION
Entered on: January 6, 2004 4:20 PM by Jackzilla
from superherohype.com:

Batman fans, are you ready? We hope you are, because Christopher Nolan's new Batman film is sounding better and better every day.

A Superhero Hype! source - who shall be called 'Enigma' - has confirmed that filming will indeed take place in Iceland. As you may have read here, the Warner Bros. production will shoot there for two weeks. What was not revealed was what will be filmed. We've got the exclusive scoop for you, but it's definitely spoiler material, so cover your eyes now if you'd rather not know...

Still here? Of course you are. In the scene, Batman, played by Christian Bale, will be fighting on ice with Ra's Al Ghul's #1 pupil (who that is, you'll have to figure out). They won't be fighting for real, however, as it is more of a training exercise.

We're also told by our source that Batman: Intimidation is a cross between Year One and Year Two and that it's interwoven very creatively. So start thinking about which characters appeared in each and you might get an idea. The film is also said to be very story-driven.

Of course you want to hear about the costume. Let's just say that the costume concept the production is using is awesome! Just wait and see...

Jesus, this sounds so sweet I can barely take it!

As for characters and Year One vs. Year Two, I may be biased, but Year One was waaaaay sweeter than year two. The most interesting thing about Year Two was that McFarlane did the artwork, which is still inferior to David Mazzuchelli's anyway. But wasn't some dude called the Reaper in that? I don't remember much about it. I can only assume that that's who they're alluding to. For Year One, that's basically a story between Batman and Comissioner Gordon who is brand new to Gotham. Very good story. But if they're doing all that PLUS Ra's Al Ghul, that sounds like to much to me. Still, I can't help but be optimistic.

From: John Entered on: January 10, 2004 11:53 AM
As we all know, optimism is my middle name when it comes to movies and a bit foolishly I might add. In the past I've been known to get my hopes a bit high (Star Wars Episode 1 and Matrix Reloaded) only to be let down. Still, I'm with you Bert, I can't help to feel a bit optimisic about the new Batman movie.

This just in from Superherohype:

Laurence Fishburne is apparently being considered for a three-picture deal (ala Michael Caine) for the small but vital role of Lucius Fox. Nolan is believed to be doggedly pursuing Chris Cooper for Gordon despite the actor turning down initial offers.

Chris Cooper (American Beauty, Seabiscuit) as Gordon would be sweet! I previously heard rumors of Dennis Quaid for that part -- But I think that idea's lame. Me thinks Cooper would add even more credibility to this project.

Laurence Fishburne? He's ok. Even after The Matrix whenever I see him I still think: "I'm sorry baby, Ike still loves ya."

From: Ross Entered on: January 13, 2004 9:10 PM
I like Laurence Fishburne quite a bit. I think he'd be more than adequate to play Lucius. Now, I only know Lucius Fox from the Batman Animated Series, but he doesn't seem like a big enough character to warrant a relatively big name dude like LF.

Chris cooper is sweet. He'd be awesome to play practically anybody; he's a true actor.

What's most surprising is mention of it being a 3-picture deal. Since when? Isn't this the first mention of this being a multi-film arrangement?

From: John Entered on: January 15, 2004 11:05 AM
Chris Cooper would be sweet indeed! The more I hear about this movie the more I like.

From: Swerb Entered on: January 15, 2004 11:35 AM
I've been a fan of Chris Cooper since American Beauty. And at least they're getting some credible, substantive actors for this movie, instead of piling up Jim Carreys and Arnold Schwarzeneggers like so many turds in a bucket...

Speaking of Batman, has anyone picked up the new Spider-Man DVD yet? (Yeah, I know it's a rough transition...) Just curious if it has any cool stuff on it.

From: John Entered on: January 15, 2004 3:15 PM
Since you ask, I have it of course. I'm a fan of the show and the special features are pretty cool if you like the technical low down on the animation. I'm sure Zilla would like to borrow it since he missed half the season.

From: Jackzilla Entered on: January 15, 2004 3:32 PM
I swear, JohnnyBells, for a guy that took a year to upgrade his xbox HDD, you sure got no problem funding the DVD collection! And that's good for me! Cuz I be the DVD-Borrower! Bring that set out next week!

From: John Entered on: January 15, 2004 11:09 PM
I be bringing it out next week, dude! We got gaming to tend to as well.

From: Ross Entered on: January 16, 2004 12:01 AM
I got the Spidey DVD too. It doesn't have too many special features, but yeah, I enjoy the VH1-style factoids that they throw in if you elect so. It's pretty sweet, makes me mad they're not making more (well, not soon anyway).

Hey guys, there is a relatively semi-spoiler-free script review of Batman: Intimidation here, that seems legit:

The guy fucking loves it. It's very exciting, I have to say.

This movie shows promise in a big way. I'm relieved that the villian won't be a ridiculous Tommy Lee Jones/Arnold Swarzenegger type of caracature. Does anyone know who'll play Ra's Al Ghul?

Update on the movie, this is sweet as hell:

Looks promising. I'm slightly worried about Christian Bale. He's sweet and I generally like him, however I'm not sure I'm ready to associate him with Batman. I don't know who I'd want though.

Also, on the same site I saw a trailer for the Punisher. I keep try to tell these guys that you can't make a good movie about the Punisher. It's impossible. I bet it sucks like Daredevil, maybe worse. At least lose the skull on the t-shirt. That's just stupid in real life.

On a finale note, have you guys been watching the new Justice League episodes? Not too shabby. There usually is some cheese in each episode, but there are sweet parts too. The last one I saw, Green Lantern was having them train together because they were fucking shit up. Batman was pissed they had to practice (wasting his time) so after they fucked the first session up, he told them to call him when it was important, and walked away. It was sweet.

From: Ross Entered on: February 9, 2004 7:41 PM
Yeah, I'm loving those Justice Leagues too. The part you mentioned was quite hilarious.

I am not really too concerned about Christian Bale. What makes me giddy with (potentially unwarranted) joy is the fact that they're focusing so much Bruce Wayne/Batman in this movie, which is what I've been saying was lacking all along, more than anything else. It really sounds like Nolan has his priorities straight. Also the fact that he's trying to keep it realistic (for a comic book movie) is promising in my mind.

Also, I agree, the Punisher movie will suck, no doubt about it and there's no way it can be good. In retrospect, I realize that it's nearly impossible to make a good Daredevil movie too, though not necessarily for the same reasons.

From: The Bone Entered on: February 9, 2004 8:43 PM
I agree, the focus has been missplaced in the past Batman movies. I got to say though, Justice League's Batman is right down my ally. Bruce Wayne is perfect as well as Batman. They should make a whole 2 hr version of Batman, similar to the "Phantom Something or Other" movie they made a long time ago. Do you remember what that was?

From: Jackzilla Entered on: February 9, 2004 11:16 PM
"Mask of the Phantasm", Bone.

BATMAN really does sound like its coming along nicely! Agree regarding THE PUNISHER: I can't believe that this thing will be very good. But then I was never a Punisher fan anyways. What's with some folks' skull and crossbones fixation anyway? Now HELLBOY looks like a fun movie! Have you seen the trailer for that, boys?

From: John Entered on: February 10, 2004 10:44 PM
I too agree the Punisher will probably be a fat turd of a movie. The Hellboy trailer did look like fun to me though. Kevin Conroy does have a sweet Batman voice and I love the Justice League version of Batman.

From: The Bone Entered on: February 10, 2004 11:50 PM
Is Kevin Conroy the voice of Batman in Justice League. If so, he's sweet as fuck.

From: John Entered on: February 11, 2004 12:28 PM
That he is, Bone. Kevin Conroy is the voice of Batman and he does a near perfect job. He has done the voice for Batman the animated series including the movie Mask of the Phantasm. He does Batman Beyond and now the Justice League. He defintely does the best rendition of Batman at least in the voice department. He is in fact, SWEET AS FUCK!

LIAM NEESON JOINS BATMAN CAST!

http://www.superherohype.com/batman/index.php?id=826

Cinescape has followed up their report from yesterday with the news that Liam Neeson indeed is in Batman...

Yesterday we reported to you that a trustworthy source informed us that actor Liam Neeson was either signed to star in the new BATMAN movie or closely circling the project. Today we heard from a second source -- and again, one that is known to us and whom we trust -- who tells us that Neeson is confirmed to be starring in BATMAN: INTIMIDATION GAME.

On top of that, this second individual tells us that the part Neeson is playing in Christopher Nolan's BATMAN is a villain!

From: Ross Entered on: February 11, 2004 5:51 PM
Well, that's got to be Ra's Al Ghul. Sweet choice.

From: The Bone Entered on: February 11, 2004 9:02 PM
The minute I saw the name Liam Neeson in Batman, I immediately associated him with Ra's Al Ghul. Perfect casting. He is strong, intelligent, and distinguished. I think he'll make an interesting villain. Anything is better than Swarzenneger's Freeze. Heinous!

From: Jackzilla Entered on: February 11, 2004 9:55 PM
Yep, Liam's gotta be Ra's Al Ghul! This thing is turning out SWEET! I love everything I hear about this movie! Maybe its good they're doing a CRAPWOMAN movie. All the CRAP can go there, all the bad ass stuff can be in BATMAN!

From: John Entered on: February 12, 2004 11:42 AM
I believe it's spelled Schwarzenegger, Bone. :) You are right, anything is better than his Freeze. It looks as though things are shaping up nicely for the new Batman movie. Great cast, great director and what sounds like a good story from the rumers I've read.

From: Ross Entered on: February 12, 2004 12:18 PM
At the risk of ruffling some Rochefeathers...

Before correcting one's spelling on the site, one ought to be sure that the spelling in their own rebuke is without flaws, else others might circulate "rumers" that one is a hypocrite. :)

From: The Bone Entered on: February 12, 2004 2:13 PM
Roche - Yep, you're right it is Schwarzenneger! Congradulantions!

Ross - You're a funny motherfucker, that's right.

Let the record reflect that Bone remained true to his word.

"I'm going on the record saying that from now on I shall only use the word "Congradulantions" as it is spelled here. I feel it is a far sweeter spelling than the original. "

Cleaned.

From: John Entered on: February 14, 2004 1:55 PM
The rumer is true, my spelling skills are dubious at best. Even for me though, that's bad since I'm aware it's spelled, rumor. I was in a hurry that day and somehow overlooked that misspelling. Any time I correct someone on this site for spelling I'm being a hypocrite much like the Bone himself. Although Ive never pointed it out, I've even seen misspellings from the mighty Bert. It seems we are all hypocrites on this site.

From: The Bone Entered on: February 14, 2004 6:44 PM
No no no! I am not being a hypocrite. I only point out errors in spelling when they change the meaning of the sentence. One example was Fatty shaking hands with his colleges. The spelling error in this case conjurs the image of one shaking hands with ones school. I'll never criticize someone for a typographical error or plain lazy spelling. I do it all the time.

From: Ross Entered on: February 14, 2004 9:28 PM
Besides Roche, the point of my commentary was not to call you a hypocrite. I just need to come up with a "rumer" and that one seemed to fit into place nicely. Didn't want you to take it so literally...

From: John Entered on: February 15, 2004 1:02 AM
Ah, no big deal guys. I certainly was not upset. I was just pointing out that we are all fallible is all.

Liam Neeson is NOT Ra's Al Ghul. He's Bruce Wayne's mentor.

From: The Bone Entered on: February 24, 2004 4:06 PM
I never saw Last Samurai, how is Watanabe? I don't know, I think Neeson would be a much better Ra's Al Ghul.

From: Swerb Entered on: February 24, 2004 9:56 PM
Watanabe was the only remotely credible thing about Last Samurai. He seemed to keep his dignity despite the movie's crappiness.

From: Jackzilla Entered on: February 25, 2004 12:05 AM
Watanabe will be sweet. Liam Neeson will be sweet. But what's this talk about Dennis Quaid close to signing for Gordon? That would be shit! What happened to Chris Cooper?!

Back to the Punisher for a moment. I just read a review on Aint it Cool News - bear with me, this wasn't from Harry the retarded movie-loving buffoon, but from Moriarty, his most well-written and cogent contributor. He doesn't care for the Punisher much, and figured the movie would suck, but came away liking it. Very interesting:

From: John Entered on: February 25, 2004 9:59 PM
Hmmm. Very interesting, Moriarty really seemed to like this film. This should interest the Bone since he was a big Punisher fan. Hell, I'm even interested from what I read. Who knows Zilla, this could be a good movie after all. Could this be one more comic book movie to be excited about? Perhaps!

From: The Bone Entered on: February 26, 2004 1:12 AM
Yeah, I was a Punisher fan as a kid because I liked the story of a pissed off dude with nothing to lose. He was pretty one dimensional though. I've liked Thomas Jane ever since he was in an exceptionaly stupid movie about smart killer sharks (Deep Blue Sea). I still think it is "unpossible" to make a good movie about the Punisher. I'll probably watch it though because I saw the one with Dolph Lungren and anything has to be better than that.

From: John Entered on: February 26, 2004 10:32 AM
Bone, did you read the review Bert posted? It was interesting that the guy went in fully expecting the Punisher to suck and came out thinking it was good. I'm not suggesting that one good review means this will surely be a good movie. I'm just saying that from what I read it sounds like it may have potential. Plus, it has to be better than the Dolph turd fest.

From: The Bone Entered on: February 26, 2004 10:41 AM
I read the review and take very little stock in it. The only reviews I take stock in are those of my friends. I know where they are coming from so I consider them of value whether I agree or not. The fact that Moriarty came in expecting a turd and left with an appreciation bodes well but I'll have to see for myself. I'm still skeptical. I still think Thomas Jane is sweet as fuck though. I like him as well or more than Christian Bale as an action hero.

From: Ross Entered on: March 19, 2004 10:59 AM
I don't know if that'll be the logo on his chest or not - I liken it to the symbol that was on the 1989 poster. Kind of just his "symbol" in general.

I don't think I like this - I hope it's just the picture - he looks to me like he's wearing inflatable armor or something - he looks like an action figure. I'll reserve judgement until I see a better-lit picture.

That is a sweet car - FOR ME TO POOP ON! It looks like some nerds form Junkyard Wars put it together with sheets of scrap metal. It's an aesthetic holocost. Some nerd in the article descirbes it as a black toad. More like black turd. Ding Ding, here comes the shitmobile!

From: Swerb Entered on: June 9, 2004 10:02 PM
Gotta agree with The Bone on this one... that's pretty crappy. It had better do some sweet stuff in the movie, or I'll just refer to it as the Jankmobile.

From: The Bone Entered on: June 9, 2004 11:15 PM
Jankmobile? That's funny. What the fuck is that in reference to?

From: Jackzilla Entered on: June 10, 2004 1:39 AM
Ya know, the old Tim Burton Corvette Batmobile looked sweet, but I bet the thing couldn't even hit 50MPH in real life. I think they just sped up the film to make it look like it was hauling batass.

I think the new Batmobile is sweet! It's not pretty, but I think the batmobile should be more functional than all pretty and Turtle-waxed.

Besides, it can jump vertically! That's like Speed Racer's Mach 5! I wonder if it has saw blades in the front so it can drive through a forest?

From: Ross Entered on: June 10, 2004 7:29 AM
I'm of two minds on this one...

I don't think it looks as cool as the 1989 Batmobile (still the coolest looking car ever, IMO), but I think this has potential. I agree, it's going to come down to how it's used. I'm interested to see it jump.

What I do think is cool is that they're not doing a simple rehashing of the same 'ol. I'm give them points for originality.

Still, ding ding here comes the shitmobile is kind of appropriate...

Zilla, I don't think there's anything practical or functional about randomly welding a bunch of fucking sheet metal to a chassy and frame, which is what the Jankmobile looks like.

By the way, I dunno if Jankmobile references anything... one of my old roommates used to use the word "janky" to describe something that's poorly constructed or cheap - i.e., something has a high "jank factor," etc.

From: The Bone Entered on: June 11, 2004 11:28 AM
I see. You use "jank" much like the term "stank". I get it. I like the term.

Batman would have been been off driving an All wheel drive Subaru WRX wagon. He would have plenty of horsepower and enough room for the groceries. That way people wouldn't laugh at him as he drives around in the Jankmobile. Next thing you know, they're going to start calling him "Jankman".

I could also see Ross Jankson and Jankzilla driving around in this contraption.

From: Ross Entered on: June 11, 2004 12:22 PM
Hey now, don't be throwing any jank my way just because I said the thing has potential. I really like the tires. :)

Just speculating here, but the angular design could be trying it make it look more "stealth-like" - the Stealth Fighter has similar (albeit cooler) angles in order to remain invisible to radar. Since that article mentions that the Jankmobile has radar-evading gadgetry, this could be what that's about.

Jankzilla - LOL!

From: The Bone Entered on: June 11, 2004 2:48 PM
At least from a head on perspective, this car would get lit up by radar like a Christmas tree. The angles need to be smooth. It would catch and reflect a radar wave like nobody's business - at least from the front. Besides, who looks for cars with radar?

From: Ross Entered on: June 11, 2004 3:01 PM
I thought the same thing - about cars using radar, kind of dumb.

Man, quit pissing on my cornflakes! Back when we had no info on this movie, it was poised to be the coolest thing since iced bread.

From: Jackzilla Entered on: June 11, 2004 3:11 PM
Is the new batmobile THAT BAD? Clearly, y'all are a bunch of 'tards who can't see straight over anticipation for CATWOMAN: THE MOTION PICTURE.

From: Ross Entered on: June 11, 2004 4:03 PM
As for an armchair discussion on the moot value of radar detection - correct me if I'm wrong Mr. Military, but I was under the impression that all radar-evading vehicles "caught" radar waves - just like they catch all waves in the electromagnetic spectrum. Likewise, there's no way to keep from reflecting at least some of it. The key to not being detected is to not let the reflected wave ever bounce back to the guy who sent it, which indeed has to do with the shape of the craft, and the more I recall, the craft should be devoid of the numerous pointy jagged edges that the Jankmobile is plagued with.

Never mind, dammit...

From: John Entered on: June 11, 2004 5:15 PM
"Jankmobile" or "shitmobile", I'm afraid both are apt. The costume has me scared and now the Batmobile too. I hope this movie isn't turning into a "black turd".

From: The Bone Entered on: June 11, 2004 6:42 PM
Stealth type aircraft or boats usually deflect the radio wave so there is minimal return. The only way to really catch a radio wave would be through absorbtion. To my knowledge, it would be difficult to make a material that can absorb a radio wave yet be structurally rigid. Shit like wood and soft dirt can absorb radio waves to a degree.

Anyways, it would be impossible to pick a particular vehicle out in a city with radar - too many buildings and if you did find a car you wouldn't be able to tell it apart from any other. I think Batman wasted his money on anti-radar shizzle. He would have been better off going to the Vu.

Yeah, that's essentially what I was saying. What I meant by "catch" was that it got "caught" by it. And you're right about the radar in the city - but perhaps that's not where he's interested in evading radar?

Here is my two cents...... Its ugly and very militaristic. Its a frickin tank. But, to put Batman into a realistic senario and have a costumed hero running around, I don't think he'd worry about building a car and saying - make it look sweet. I think he'd say - Make it so I don't get my ass blown up! This fits the latter.

Good point Fatty. I thought I read somewhere that this was actually based on a real military vehicle. I know his suit is supposed to be.

Fatty and I are of agreement here. I'd feel safer driving that thing than a fiberglass Corvette with shiny bat decals. Batman's sweet; I bet he has both. One for crime fighting and one for cruising for chicks.

Bruce Wayne has many cars. Batman only has the Batmobile!

There are no military vehicles that look even remotely as impracticle as that Jankmobile. You want seemless and smooth surface area to deflect incoming projectiles and and concussive blast. Plus you don't want the enemy to think you have bad taste.

At 2.5 tons it aint exactly fuel friendly now either. Batman hates the environment and supports terrorists

New pictures!!!

I don't care what any of you (Bones) say, this is fucking sweet. This is from an article on MSNBC that I haven't yet read.

That is fucking sweet! I give it the full thumbs! Don't worry, I'll stop using the thumbs soon.

Just read the MSNBC article and it was pretty cool. I just hope the movie will live up to the legend that is Batman.

That pic reminds me of the sweet scene in the first Tim Burton Batman where he crashes through the museum skylight: AWESOME!

But much cooler, as he has a wingspan of comic-book proportions.

New (small crappy quality) pics of Christian Bale as Batman in Chicago. Judging by the fact he has no cape/cowl, I'm guessing this is him using the prototype suit before it becomes the batsuit - he kind of looks like Sam Fisher from Splinter Cell in these pictures - it's a lot more encouraging than what we've seen before, I think. They also have RealVideo of him in action, it's pretty cool. Check it out:
